We don't do multiple excellents here (unfortunately)...have tried several times to persuade our head classifier to introduce it, but so far without any success....

Well done Jim,

I see your Daphne has joined the list of 10E cows along with Horwood Beattie 38 and Ceinwen Bonze. It's a fantastic achievement.

The list of UK cows is on the Holstein UK website, click Animal Data, then Holstein Classifications to find the list.

The record here in Canada is held by Floydholm Starbuck Polly EX-12E just out the road from me.

Re: multiple excellents what is the the record?

Hey guys,

I was just looking at the Floydholm Starbuck Polly Ex12E cow, i thought there was some very interesting scores for her classification. There is a major outlier in the cows rump, she went from VG85 on her 12th lactation too G75 on her 13th and then back to GP81 on her 14th lactation. A drop of 10 then up 6???!?! I have put together some graphs for cowtalk viewers, they are an uploaded excel spreadsheet, if you go to:

Take a look and let us know what you think. This cow is obviously a breed champion, an outstanding individual in her own merit. I would say a cow in a league of her own. I am defiantly not knocking the cow with the graphs, i find that her individual scores although are extremely interesting. In AUS with a lot of our cows you can see a common pattern over time with the classification of the cow, with this cow it seems by looking at the graphs that her classification breakdowns are inconsistant. Let us know what you think.

Yes this is interesting, maybe it is influenced by conditioning or stage of pregnancy? But to have a difference of 10 points, I don't know. Different classifiers? But with this case no way should there be a difference of 10 or 6 points!

Some classifiers make the individual parts fit the final score rather than building the score from how the parts actually fit.

Maybe the rump got put down to 75 so that the final score didn't go up a point or two?

Yes I know , i've seen the same thing happening.
They have the score in their heads as soon as the cow.
Any classifiers on cowtalk who can defend or explain these scores?

I also looked up this cow. What struck me was how did she get to be 12E?My understanding is that the cow can only recieve a multiple after each calving.

I think you can classify multiple times during a lactation as long as they are a minimum of 100 days apart

very common in the us, I know of a famous herd that scores about 12x a year, I beleive every 60 days you can run a cow by so a lot of their cows get scored or run by 6x a year, the classifier won't say no to raising her every time, so by the end of the two year old lactation you can have her at about 89 points first calf if she is decent. It used to fire me up, now I figure it makes the association money and when people see cows from these herds, they know, so no big deal.

They can only classify Excellent once per lactation in the UK.

I was under the impression you could get raised like that in the UK, but didn't get an extra E on the pedigree if it happened.
