Not to pick on Jeff, but Debonair is a young sire from a cow that died young. He is very risky and unless you are pursuing red(and maybe yet then), you should limit your usage of Debonair. Flushing with young sires is very high in the risk reward category.
Flush bulls right now are pretty underwhelming, ryanns. The top flight bulls are either old, dead, or unavailable. Lots of people are having a go with Onward, Jeeves, and Megaman. The list of top end bulls has become pretty stagnant.

Re: …
Apart from the big 4 ... Bolton,Baxter,Goldwyn and Shottle there's not much kicking about Megaman or Taboo Planet may be worth a chance. Keep off flushing cows to unproven bulls in the main, but if you attempt this risk make certain the family has a good track record of breeding proven bulls .. dont take too much notice of how it transmits via the female line cos I think you will end up very disapointed.

Flush Bulls
i scoped out Semex list of embryos for sale on their web site a while back and noticed quite a few cows mated to To-Mar Fortune. Not sure how flashy this bull is but his proof looks pretty solid and he is from a good cow family (Faith) At one point #1 conformation and TPI Durham son available.
I like Shottle best of the "Big 4" He seems to tick all the boxes i look for. Good type, good components, good enough milk, PL, sire stack. My only problem is I would be nervous to use him on anything with Storm blood as he already carries a similar sire stack.

Re: Flush Bulls
I used Fortune last fall (not flushing) and had crappy conception rates. Is this typical or was I experiencing some bad luck? I have a Dundee 2yr old that I plan on using. Her first flush will be to Roy and if that goes well I might use Goldwyn or dust off some of my winter run Durham.

Flush Bulls
Down here in Quebec, the tendency is that they tend to use all the same bulls to flush their cows. Names that come more often are Howie , Onward , Socrates , Shaquille rc {young sire} , and of course still some Shottle and Goldwyn used on good impact cows. I am agree with some of you , there is not a lot of bulls right now that are very exciting . Planet and Jeeves will be something I will consider until next august proofs and maybe I will cover myself with something safer for the 2nd flush , ex. Mac , Shottle , Goldwyn , they are good reliable bulls to use to make daughters and continue your family.Lets hope for good Oman son this summer or in the falls .

Re: Flush Bulls
You do take a chance with young sires. Actually, breeding is luck. If it was skill, then someone would have excellent animals (nothing but). But we all have something that isn't quite up to par..
Either way, there are the what ifs. But Debonair has been used quite a bit, several 1st choices in the coming R&W convention sale, some embryos were sold with the top selling lot at the convention sale. How he pans out, we wont know for 3 more years, then a couple after that. I figured what the hey.. I will breed the donor to Talent, as if she does have a heifer, id be more inclined to hold on to the natural calf, than the ET's.. Unless, she didn't have a heifer.
Some have offered 1st choices and live ET's from Fradon Redliner as well.
Now am I saying to go bonkers on a young sire based on pedigree? NO. I took a gamble once before on a young sire, and he never got a proof.. But I only paid $8/unit for him..

Re: Flush Bulls
Howie, Onward, Jeeves, Socrates, Iron Active, Lightning
Still a little Baxter, Goldwyn, & Shottle
For R&W. . . . choice IMO still very limited apart from Advent, that's why I think more people are taking a gamble on young sires like Debonair & Mat bros Deuce & Dusk, then RedRose sons.

Flush Bulls
Lawnboy is certainly a nice bull, a little to commercial for the marketing crowd.
The red bloodlines have been taken over by show ponies. It really is too bad, they were different now they are too inbred, and too focused on Roxy blood at the moment.
BTW I keep hearing about how nice the milking Rampage daughters are. He bears watching for his August proof. I like mine, but I have yet to catch them in heat, as they are just breeding age.

Flushing an Oman heifer to Nifty and Amateur then Goldwyn and Shottle.
I think we really need something good to come up in the nezt round, list is a little stagnant at the moment. Only the blitz sons but as I read somewhere else they are only good for washing out the milk lines after milking!

I've been hearing the opposite. Should be interesting to see where he comes out.

Haven't flushed to Airraid - but do have an Airraid heifer on the ground out of an 87 point 2-YR Rampage - not a bad calf. Not huge, but she's pretty correct.

Sexations were wonderful cattle... but I was already being leg pulled for selling a 'genetic antique' when I sold one in our 1994 sale! Can you find a daughter or get hold of the semen??????????

Re: Flush Bulls
For interest here is the Sexation I sold in 1994 (click the link)
Wedder W SXM Vista
I am not sure why her calving dates and some of her lactations are missing, but she definitely had her third calf in 1997, and was around for a fifth in 1999 (I think she may have been lost in FMD in 2001).
She well out performed her parent average and even has a creditable index by today's standards. I should have used her as an example when I was being hammered in another thread for suggesting using a more diverse selection of genetics, including a few oldtimers!!

have a look at the Leduc thread. I just put a comment on it as to how this bull polarises opinions, so its back on this page of topics.
