Golden Crosses...

You hear a lot about the magical "Golden Cross" amongst Holstein breeders, so I'm interested to know what the people of this forum consider to be the true Golden Crosses of the past, present and, if you're adventurous, the future.

Golden Crosses...

MAC x Shottle x Oman .

Easy on paper ... we need to assume that the Shottle dam as enough capacity and power to make that kind of cross .

Re: Golden Crosses...

He is an Outside son so watch the protein, and that calving ease needs protection. They have a bit more length and femininity than the typical Outside, with out losing strength, and show more crease and nicer textured udders than dad. He follows the linear well, so rear legs are on the straighter side, with good locomotion. I liked the daughter groups, very consistent stamp, his lifespan, and his PL deviations especially.

Yes. Have never seen that combination in action but think it would make an interesting cross.

Love what Ive seen from Mac x Shottle.
Oman x Durham
Goldwyn x Oman
Shottle x Toystory viceversa

Also as I talked with my Semex Rep lately he thought about Laurie Sheik x Gypsy Grand families.

Goldwyn x C Leader worked really well here. No experience of Oman here but I would expect him to be a useful cross onto Goldwyn.

Think so too. Goldwyn on Leader is a proven good mating. Goldwyn x Igniter is another one.
To mate cows is not easy and it is so easy. Strength on weakness and quality on strength...results are not always great but it is a good advice.

Two crosses of Grand onto a Juror X Mascot? Sounds like a recipe for shocking feet and legs IMHO.

Re: Golden Crosses...

yeah I know what you mean but it works.
Lacoulee Justine Goldwyn is one...
Igniter was a good feet and leg bull and Goldwyn is another one.
Goldwyn x Juror blood should work perfect in general.

My Igniters have poor rear legs and they were mostly off Tugolos to protect him.

Re: Golden Crosses...

Igniters only have mediocre legs and feet even where they have been protected for them but locomotion score looks ok on the proof.

It's funny, the only small negative igniter has for feet here is a 99 (100 = avg) for foot angle. his legs are a little curved too which always goes down well here on pasture.
