Genomic Young Sires To Watch

Thought this would be a good follow up to the young sires to watch thread. I am curious as to what genomic young sires are seeing use in cowtalker herd's, and are you using genomic young sires in place of daughter proven bulls?

Don't know about anyone else but unless price of geonomic young bull semen comes down there won't be any purchased around here.......!

Think some AI companies are trying to make a fast buck judging by there prices, genomics is at such an early stage i can't believe the price some of these studs are asking for it.

Until it's a proven system that gives us reliable early info on young sires i won't be paying any extra for geonomic young bull semen.

Genomic bulls I have used the last 9 months for ovysync or hard breeders.

whittier farms Apollo-Shottle x BKB Abbey-$10
Deslac Shaquille - Shottle x Durham - $12
Klassic Big Time -Mac x Shottle x Durham - $15

Most of these bulls were purchased based on pedigree just as much as genomic proof.

What about Aftershock? Anybody using him from ABS? I think he's $20. He's a Shottle x Durham Atlee. +2262 TPI, +2125 Milk and +4.88 PTAT. Looks like he may be one to watch.

I went to the Lylehaven sale and Aftershock was a bull they were using a little bit of. I know some other farmers near by who are using him. I think he is definitely a bull to keep an eye on.

Burket Falls SIGNIFicant-P-ET.

Marion X Rudolph so a little different. 3 on type with decent health traits and huge production.

We're starting to use Aftershock a little here and there. I think he'd be the bull to watch.

All of you should remember that genomics are just a slightly better guess at what a young bull will turn out like than parent average. They are not proofs by a very very long way.A lot of you selecting bulls by this method are going to be very very disappointed when the real proofs come in.

Genomic Young Sires To Watch

Will wouldnt you say Genomics are more then just "slightly" better then PA? PA is just throwing numbers that are on paper together and dividing them by two. Genomics are taking actual DNA and finding gene markers that are proven to demonstrate certain traits. I would say that although it is not as reliable as a bull with 99% reliability it is still much better then PA.
I personally still like using proven bulls but for hard breeders and some ovysyncs that I normally would use a young sire on I can now pin point which YS I think has the best shot of turning out. Example: If I had seen Rampages genomic proof 2 years ago I most certainly would have avoided him in favor of another YS.
Genomics is just a tool to be used with all the information we have to help us make the best decision based on our management goals.
