Re: Wilcoxview Jasper
Sorry have not seen any milking, but have heard good reports on his calves. His low milk scares most(and the fact he sires nice calves, scares the real breeders!!!) I am not fond of his pedigree, but also like his proof, and have used him a couple of times on repeat breeders.

Re: Wilcoxview Jasper
Like most we were scared by his pedigree a bit - I cant really imagine a Lee off a Bellwood siring great udders.
But we used a bit, seemed end up with about half a dozen heifer calves, that we really really like.. Long necked, stylish and correct. The eldest are only about 6 months, but certainly as a group of calves the bunch I like the best of anything we've got..
Is he currently available (UK or elsewhere?)

Re: Wilcoxview Jasper
Used some of him, partly due to him looking like such a great bull himself....... love the calves, strong tops, deep rib and very stylish Hope he lives up to his proof.

Talked to Brian Behnke at Wisconsin State Holstein Sale. He said if you want fancy heifers that turn into phenomonal cows you need to use Jasper. I guess I will listen to the guy who just judged Madison

Re: …
Judging from the quote I got, Jasper might be one they'd rather shift now rather than one to watch for the future. Not many first crop bulls that look destined for greatness get their price dropped to £10.

£10 seems a good deal now, considering his latest type proof

Re: Wilcoxview Jasper
This bull ranks 658th on milk for those avaiable in the UK
There's 90 bulls over 700kgs milk
165 over 600kgs milk
252 over 500kgs milk
345 over 400kgs milk
458 over 300kgs milk
so basically if I cant find bulls over 600kgs milk worth using in the UK then why the hell am I in dairy farming ? So from now on 600kgs milk min and whatever type I decide on

Wilcoxview Jasper
Broa although this bull would not work for you or me. I have no doubt that he would be marketable to those looking to breed show cows or those looking for a high reliablility type improver to use on a deep cow family. Jasper has his place in the holstein breed. Also if everyone used him besides me, my milk check would look a whole lot better.

Re: Wilcoxview Jasper
you can use your high milk bulls and I will use the high type bulls and when you are short of cows you can buy my extra jaspers heifers then. just stir the pot a little more

Re: Wilcoxview Jasper
That's what makes this forum interesting. . . . that there are always a variety of different oppinions. . . . .
Whatever aspect you decide is right or wrong, it is your freedom of choice to have an oppinion and decide for yourself.
Like they say Variety is the spice of life!

In C316s defence, it's always the heifers/cows that exhibit better type that command the highest prices at monthly sales such as Beeston, Lancaster, and Carlisle, so perhaps they might be more profitable to some!

Re: Wilcoxview Jasper
I have seen Jasper Full Sister back 4 years ago. She was at Policow, she was dry out on the pasture, but I think I could easily say that she is a good cow. Anyway F&L could be an issue as mastities as well...
Even is we liked the cow overall we didn't use him since we didn't consider him to fit our herd management.
For the Show lovers he could sire some really fancy heifers. Not sure how they woul develope as milking cows.

My jasper milking heifer is in infirmary and ithink that is very difficult that she's able to exit, great frame but too bad legs , she's backed by a Capri therefore it is not all guilt of Jasper

Hi Marco, you forgot to mention that your Jasper is backed by a Rudolph Grand Dam as well...
Jasper x Capri x Rudolph...(F&L problems? Really?!?)
I would use Jasper on Mtotos, Tugolos, Skywalkers, Titanics...
