New Member can't login

Hi I am an administrator for the runboard "bthemorrismarinaownersclub". I have been contacted by one of our club members who reports that although they have set up a runboard account (marina75) they can't access our runboards. We do require the members to set up a personal password, but there is currently no facility on the account setup page to record a password.

Can you help?

If marina75 set up an account then she had to include a password for marina75 when it was created. An error message would have been seen if she had not.

Passwords are case sensitive so make sure she is spelling it right. If that does not solve the issue then start from scratch and create an entirely new user name and password.

Hi MarinaCoupe,

The username, marina75, doesn't exist. It's possible that she may have tried to register that name, but didn't complete all the required fields before submitting the registration form.

You may need to instruct her to read the screen after submitting the form to make sure there were no errors. Also, you might point out that she'll be sent an email with a link she'll need to click on before she can use her account after it's created.

Hi thanks for the prompt reply, I tried setting up a dummy User and went through the application process and it didn't bring up a password request. Does this mean that we are looking at the wrong application page?

I have check my members and have no new members since 31/12/08. Have their been any changes made to the application coding or process?

Chris

You're welcome, Chris.

No, there haven't been any changes.

It's been so long since I registered an account that I was thinking there was a place on that form to make up a password, too. But I just looked, and there's not.

I'm sure she has the right form, but here it is anyway.

Please let us know if she still has trouble registering.

Hi Lesigner Girl

I think that that's my point, when I'm in the administration section I have specified that they need a password (and I have one to login) and yet there is nowhere for them to specify a password, that's why I was asking if the form had changed.

I am confused.

Hello Chris.
I think I see what you mean. But I cannot see your admin section to be able to check that out. You must have it hidden.

But just checking that you did the following.

>Control panel
>Manage board
>Security Management
>Advanced Security settings
>Fine Tuning the Admin section
>Membership gaining method
You selected
*Enter password to gain membership
Password* You placed a password and then selected change security preferences.

But then your staff cannot see a space for a password to be placed.

Is this right? Or am I totally way off.

Before any of us get any more confused...

Did she give you the right name, Chris?

Before marina75 can get into any Runboard board with that account, that account first needs to exist. If it did exist, the link in my above quote would lead to her profile, but instead it says, "No such user is known."

Now, moving on to the Runboard account registration process which, unless she registered a name other than marina75, she has not completed yet...

Emphasis added this time.

Emphasis added by me again. It doesn't sound like we're talking about the same form. There is no Runboard account under the name of marina75, so unless she registered a different username with us, this person still needs to register a Runboard account — using this registration form — before she can post at any Runboard, or read any area on Runboard's system where a password has been set for viewing.

I hope everyone is on the same page now. If this person registered a name other than marina75, please find out what that name is and let me know so I can make sure it's really registered, and then we can go from there. emoticon

Lol. It's easy to miss a detail or two when so many details are being discussed. This is why I want to focus on getting marina75's user account sorted out before tackling the 2nd part of Chris' initial post, because they sound like two separate issues.
