SHM-CD Rainbow releases
On 24 Sep 08, Universal International will release limited edition SHM-CD versions of the Rainbow albums (with the exception of SIUA, I think) in cardboard sleeves.
For those new to SHM-CD, the "Super High Material CD" format features enhanced audio quality through the use of a special polycarbonate plastic. Using a process developed by JVC and Universal Music Japan discovered through the joint companies' research into LCD display manufacturing, SHM-CDs feature improved transparency on the data side of the disc, allowing for more accurate reading of CD data by the CD player laser head. SHM-CD format CDs are fully compatible with standard CD players.

Re: SHM-CD Rainbow releases
Whitesnake already did this, and I hear there is no imporvement in the sound at all, thats not what it's about, it's about strength of the product and how long it lasts without wearing thin and eventually wearing out. They simply have an indistructability that standard CD's don't have. The only enhancement is the lasting effects, or so I hear. Let us know if there is actually a difference though, anybody got a few extra yen, you're going to need it.

Re: SHM-CD Rainbow releases
Thanks, Skyscaper!
I will consider getting the Dio era album as the Japanese know their stuff when it comes to producing great sounding CDs.
Rowever, remember also that the Rainbow albums will be re-released in Europe as well. Jerry Bloom is the consultant in the project so this tim they should get it right, with all possible extra tracks etc. I hope there will also be remixes of some of the tracks - or just remix the entire albums!
