A tribute to Mr Lord and Mr Blackmore: Piano & Guitar

I would love it, when Blackmore & Lord would make an album with some instrumental songs like the way of they improvised the intro of Anya during the TBRO tour.

My girlfriend played and recorded an improvisation on the piano and I improvised over it with that particular intro in mind.

It resultated in this:

January Song

What do you think?

Ahh yes...that was impressive.

Now I'm curious...did you and your girlfriend both record your parts at the same time, or did she record her track first, and then you went back and recorded yours second?

Again, and I know people will probably disagree with me on this account, but I note the excellent use of piano woven into the texture of lead guitar. To me this is more a treatment I would expect from Europeans than I would Americans...and what da' ya' know: the notes on the webpage say you're from The Netherlands.

I wonder if the same thing would be conceived of here in the states, and even attempted here in the states?

My take on it is that if today's youth in the U.S. are not exposed to hear such things, they cannot conceive of it being done in the first place, and therefore will not do it.

Europeans on the other hand, grew up hearing more classical music, more complex and sophisticated merging of various instruments to meet a common goal, and I just think such possibilities are more conceived of in their imagination.

The only hope is that some American kids hit that Soundclick website and hear some of this stuff, and that ideas will stick in their heads, that will change the way they view music and composition.

But maybe I again have overgeneralized.

Last thought: Have you considered getting your girlfriend to try a similar thing, but on Hammond instead of piano? That would be interesting. Maybe not practical all the time, if her feeling and heart is more in the piano, but just as a change I'd be curious what she could do with it, and how the two of you would sound?

That would be the ultimate RB/JL treatment right there.
