Re: Come Taste the Band

When I first heard it, with the exception of one or two tracks, I was incredibly & totally disappointed; I probably swore that it'd be the last Deep Purple album I'd ever buy, etc.,etc. After a few more listens, I decided it was a little worse than "Stormbringer", but sometimes tolerable when listened to on a 'seldom and far between' basis...after seeing MkIV live in Springfield, Massachusetts and being quite impressed with the concert - a lot more impressed than I thought I'd be, to be honest - my attitude towrds the album softened just a bit more...anyway, at the end of things, it may have taken me 28 years, but in 2004 I finally came to the conclusion that with the exception of 2 or maybe 3 out-and-out 'naff' tracks, the rest of the album is excellent and that's when (2004) the album broke into my 'Personal Top 10 Dp Studio Albums' list.

I had heard a couple of tracks on the local FM raydio station before it was released, and was floored.Got the lp for Christmas, and it hit me right away, and I still love it all of these years later. Not to compare apples to oranges, but the Blackmore lp's sound a bit dated to my ears,CTTB still sounds fresh.

Loved it when I first heard it and still do. A big improvment over SB.

Agreed. Classic album from a classic band.

Re: Come Taste the Band

I first picked it up on cassette tape in a gas station i northern Sweden in 1976 while on a winter trip with my parents. I listened to it the entire trip, bought a pop magazine and saw pictures from the Japanese tour, the looked incredibly cool...

I was completely floored by the album, and I'm still listening to it regularly 31 years later. Absolutely brilliant.

Maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but it sure is mine... I like "regular" DP MkI,II and III a hell of a lot as well, but there's something about the 75/76 period (last MkIII tour included) that's just magical. There's so much energy there, both positive and negative, no wonder they fell apart... and RB released "Rising" at the same time -phew!

A classic album but not really a Deep Purple album. I liked it a lot when it first came out even though I was a total Blackers fan. I have to thank it for introducing me to the great Tommy Bolin.

To me this album is very much down to the core of Deep Purple, actually. A great and classic album that I don't grow tired from.

Bolin is sparkling, even if he doesn't dominate the overall sound as much as he did in earlier bands. He fills his shoes nonetheless. Paicey is also absolute class here, and Cov seems to really enjoy himself - perhaps due to Blackers being gone, and of course Cov being a bit more experienced and self-confident at the time.
