Re: Come Taste the Band
A wonderful wonderful album. Heavy, gritty, funky, sleazy, groovy, and rockin'!
Masterful.

Re: Come Taste the Band
The really amazing thing about CTTB is that Purple were already falling apart at the seams making the lp.Glenn went to rehab during the sessions, and Jon is pretty well MIA for most of it,leaving the crux of it to David and Tommy. Its not the most united the band had been in the studio, and it still stands the test of time anyway.

Re: Come Taste the Band
Isn't it really amazing that also Bolin's soloalbums (Teaser and Privat Eyes) have stood the test of time?
What would he have achieved if he was still around?

Re: Come Taste the Band
Not trying to be funny, but can you imagine what Bolin might have done if he was sober? He did CTTB,Teaser and Private Eyes within about 18 months, including co-producing much of it and touring the world with two different bands.Drives home what a waste his death was.

Re: Come Taste the Band
The album should have been titled "Come Waste The Band"

Re: Come Taste the Band
How's this for a thrashing, by Paul Wilkeson, in his enjoyable Black Sabbath book Rat Salad (2006) while discussing rock albums released in 1975: "[...] Deep Purple, minus guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, hit a new nadir with the bottom-of-the-barrel-scraping Come Taste the Band [...]."
In contrast, Wilkeson of course finds Sabbath's Sabotage, released the same year, "a great, even a classic album", but that is perfectly in line with the book's approach, which is highly personal (lifting the book above an average work on a rock band anyday).

Re: Come Taste the Band
The author seems to have mixed up descriptions here.Sabotage shows Sabbath on the other side of the creative mountain(going downwards fast)while Come Taste The Band,twenty-three years later, only gets better with age.CHEERS

Re: Come Taste the Band
Did he confuse CTTB with "Stormbringer"?
