What if...Bolin and Hughes is fired in 1976?

Our friend Mooger is running an interesting topics, let me join the bandwagon, just for opinions, since Purple will have NO new ventures, except for touring, touring, touring and touring. emoticon

The duo of Bolin and Hughes causes problems for Purple in tours, coz they are well we know loves drugs during those days.

What if Coverdale and company decided to fire them and decided to hire a bassist and guitarist instead.

My choices are:

Jeff Beck, Ronnie Montrose, etc.

----and----

Roger Glover, etc.

Definately Jeff Beck guitar in '76 and maybe John Wetton on Bass.

Or how about Chris Squire ?

the only thing I wish is that Bolin would have had the time to record some more albums. With or without Hughes. His solo material is so great.

Yeah I quite agree on that. It's a big shame that Tommy didn't end up on Play Me Out (as was originally planned). They could have produced some great material.

John Wetton perhaps, I don't think Chris Squire would have quit Yes to join DP in 76, probably wouldn't have been a wise career move from his point of view.

If Lord, Paice and Coverdale had decided to fire Bolin and Hughes and carry on with Deep Purple then they probably would have asked Blackmore to return. He might have insisted on Dio replacing Coverdale.

I don't think that this would have happened because he was enjoying a big slice of his own cake, and going back to DP would have meant a 1/5th share.

Also, a more powerfull drummer and modern keyboard player were part of his plans.

I agree with Mooger, Purple would become a revolving doors for musician going in and out of Purple if Blackmore return to Purple.

Jeff Beck never would have joined Deep Purple at that point, and I am glad because I would rather have "Wired" et al.

How about Mick Taylor in the Coverdale-led band? Mick had just left the Jack Bruce Band at that point - would have been VEERRRRY interesting!!
