Re: Slaves and Masters.
I love Slaves & Masters and I love JLT!! It's one of my fave albums! Breakfast In Bed and Fortuneteller are somewhat magical...!

Now I suppose I could interject with a pithy comment about how I would consider waking up one day and discovering I had morphed into JLT to be a fate far worse than death...but I won't.

Re: Slaves and Masters.
Elrich ,
Hear ya loud and clear. For me my least fav use to be CTTB but I haven't listened to it in (gulp) decades and will leave my least fav for another time.
MrEd , (Hows Wiiiiiiiiiiiilbur)
Kinda lost interest in some bands during the 80's. Still bought their new CD's and gave em a spin or two but I found alot of bands to be rather bland in the Rock world.
Just to clear up the confusion.....I'm really JLT just having a giggle. lol
Will the real JLT please stand up!
Peace,
MP.

Re: Slaves and Masters.
I like S&M as well as Stormbringer. Ritchie plays very melodically on S&M and tunes like King Of Dreams, Fire In The Basement, Fortune Teller and Cut Runs deep as well as Wicked Ways are all top notch tunes. Whether it sounds like Rainbow or Deep Purple is up to the listener but to me as long as it sounds like Blackmore, Lord and Paice I'll like it. Same goes for Stormbringer. Blackmore plays some wicked solos which were a pre-cursor to his new Rainbow and then some very melodic solos too. It also has DP's best ballad in SOF and still sounds like Blackmore, Lord and Paice.

Re: Slaves and Masters.
...SOF better than WABMC??????
For me the latter has more than the slight edge.
We are talking about Deep Purple here, are we not?

Re: Slaves and Masters.
Soldier of Fortune is the greatest DP ballad, cos IMO WABMC is astonishing Blues Song.
BTW S&M is not even a bad Rainbow album (bent out shape). it's worst. there NO way in Heaven (or Hell) that we can find something real good in this album. it's a complete zero rate album. Jon Lord is sleeping as Paice (looks like a drum machine) and Blackmore did nothing ! If you like AOR bands (which I hate) this must be good, but ...

Re: Slaves and Masters.
I like it. I don't think JLT did a bad job at all, and the rest of the band gave good performances (though maybe the style of the music didn't really stretch them very much).
People complained that it didn't sound like Deep Purple -- but you couls say the same about every album after a line-up change (the exception is Bananas, which sounds exactly like Mk 7). Variety is good!

1. JLT ****ing rocks in case you don't know!
2. Bent out of shape is Rainbow's best record and one of the best albums ever. Period!
3. While S&M is not Purple's strongest effort it's still a decent LP and way better then at least 3 or 4 Purple records. It's biggest drawback is Roger's overpolished production.
4. Ian Paice is indeed dissapointing here, but Lord's work is at least interesting and Blackmore is awesome (Love Conquers All solo is a gem!)

Re: Slaves and Masters.
Funny that you mention BOOS, John. I just listened to the CD minutes ago ! Not their best IMO, very poppy and rather tame album overall, I'd forgotten just how commercial sounding it is with songs like "Desperate Heart" and "Stranded", but it's got some truly superb guitar solos aplenty. Ritchie in top form, but I prefer DTC and SBTE.
