Re: Slaves and Masters.

I like this album. It is number 4 on the best of the reunion albums list. When people say that it sounds like Rainbow, I must question why they do not complain about some older Deep Purple material sounding Rainbowish (for I swear, the guitarist on Machine Head and the guitarist on Rainbow Rising sound almost exactly alike). JLT wasn't bad either (I had no idea he could do what he did on Wicked Ways). However, I will say that the ideal voice for the album would have to be David Coverdale.

I think when people say it sounds like Rainbow, they're hardly comparing to the Mk of Rainbow that recorded "Rising". There's more than just a guitarist on both albums...and they were recorded 18 or so years apart.
I believe it's being compared to such Rainbow albums as "Difficult To Cure"; "Straight Between The Eyes" + "Bent Out Of Shape". Check out the names of the guitarist, bassist + vocalist on those three, then the names of the guys who filled those same slots on "Slaves + Masters" by the band RainDeep PurpBow.. emoticon

...lord knows we didn't need the vocals on that one,but are you suggesting that we didn't need any bass, drums and keyboards as well?
I'm sure thats what you're implying there,or something to the effect that anyone will do as long as Ritchie breathes anywhere near it.
I liken S&M to nothing Rainbow ever recorded,it sounds much more to me like a full blooded attempt at trying to be Bad Company, and sadly failing, although at the same time it's better than them...go figure!

I tried to figure that statement out for about 5 seconds a few minutes ago. To quote Michael Palin, "MY BRAIN HURTS!" emoticon

BTW S&M is not even a bad Rainbow album (bent out shape). it's worst. there NO way in Heaven (or Hell) that we can find something real good in this album. it's a complete zero rate album. Jon Lord is sleeping as Paice (looks like a drum machine) and Blackmore did nothing ! If you like AOR bands (which I hate) this must be good, but ...

1. JLT ****ing rocks in case you don't know!
2. Bent out of shape is Rainbow's best record and one of the best albums ever. Period!
3. While S&M is not Purple's strongest effort it's still a decent LP and way better then at least 3 or 4 Purple records. It's biggest drawback is Roger's overpolished production.
4. Ian Paice is indeed dissapointing here, but Lord's work is at least interesting and Blackmore is awesome (Love Conquers All solo is a gem!)

McCoy Rainbow Rising is greatest Rainnbow album IMO. and JLT CANT Rock. emoticon

Rising's great no doubt about it! It's all a matter of personal preferences. If you think JLT can't rock (which is a blasphemy!) it only proves that you didn't listen to most of his stuff!

Re: Slaves and Masters.

As been pointed out by some, Slaves & Masters came at least five years too late. It's very unpurple-like to not be a little ahead of the trends. If S&M is not a "true DP album" this is to me the reason.

Blackmore is very good here. His melodies are great stuff, from the master himself. JLT is the second best performer on the album. Lord has a few highlights.
Warm and fine atmosphere, strong melodies. Lacking edge though, but more than decent.

And since it somehow belongs to the thread: I LOVE STORMBRINGER!!! IT ROCKS BIGTIME!!! emoticon
