I think you have to make a distinction between the new material and the old material played live at KB85.
Apart from HS (of which the speed solo was only half-rendered on the model of the 1971 BBC session), I was not astonished by their performance of the old material. "Smoke on the Water" was OK, because of the energy and the enthusiasm of the band (and of the audience), but, just like others here, I had the feeling of listening to a cover band. To some extent, I prefered the versions on Nobody's Perfect (maybe because of the better quality of the sound).
When it comes to the new material, "A Gypsy's Kiss" and "Perfect Strangers" are really blowing. "Knocking at your back door" is clearly established as a new classic live number of the band. As far as "Nobody's Home" is concerned, I never really enjoyed the song, so...

In all honesty it is impossible to tell if he was missing notes or not! what he played during the ST solo especially defied description it was basically noise if that is indeed what he intended to play then fine he nailed it but as far as i am concerned that was not TMIB i grew up listening to but a poor poor shadow of his former self(and future self for that matter from around 91 onwards) sh~t in fact describes his performance very well for me but hey its only my opinion you obviously enjoyed the performance I didnt and was dissapointed

You can compare it for yourself. Lazy was taken from the bootleg.
Yes, you're right, I forgot. However, Lazy was taken from the bootleg LP, not from the bootleg CD. (Simon Robinson wrote in the DPAS magazine that they didn't get the CD early enough to use it.) I had the chance to listen to the bootleg CD when it was released, and I thought the sound was quite good, much better than Lazy on the official release. Sadly I don't have the bootleg CD.

Following this logic you could as well say Steve Morse is **** because he always plays too many notes too fast when soloing, no matter what the circumstances. Not that I'd expect you to say that seeing as you're one of his biggest admirers.

The BBC did a Radio 1 'special' on the concert saturday, and did indeedy air the 4 tracks mentioned. However, soon after ( couple of weeks ?) they did a Friday Rock Show special- 'Knebworth through the night' where they broadcast all the support sets ( except the scorpions who had a live LP out at the time) & finished with the full DP set (apart from 'Under the Gun' for some reason). I stayed up until 3 in the morning to tape the damn thing!!

Frankly, to me, this is not a good version of the song. Actually, the only live version of SKoW I like is the one on MiJ.
