but Blackers and it hurts me to say this was sh#t as he was during many of the solo instrumental parts of the show

Why, was he missing notes or something? I suspect he was playing exactly what he wanted to play in which case you can't say he was ****. You don't have to like his sound or what he was playing, but claiming he was **** at what he was doing is prejudicial.

In all honesty it is impossible to tell if he was missing notes or not! what he played during the ST solo especially defied description it was basically noise if that is indeed what he intended to play then fine he nailed it but as far as i am concerned that was not TMIB i grew up listening to but a poor poor shadow of his former self(and future self for that matter from around 91 onwards) sh~t in fact describes his performance very well for me but hey its only my opinion you obviously enjoyed the performance I didnt and was dissapointed

Following this logic you could as well say Steve Morse is **** because he always plays too many notes too fast when soloing, no matter what the circumstances. Not that I'd expect you to say that seeing as you're one of his biggest admirers.

Hmmm well actually I am a far far bigger admirer of TMIB who is and always has been my favourite guitarist by a very very long way!!As far as I am concerned TMIB on form has no equal in the rock world! now with all that said IMHO he was undeniably for the most part (Knebworth included)a long way short of his peak during the 80s and that is what i found both annoying and dissapointing as I had waited a long time to see DP as i am too young(cant say that too often nowemoticon ) to have seen them in the 70s and had only seen the various members in their other bands including TMIB with Dio era Rainbow when he was at the peak of his powers and in comparison to that his 80s performances were sh#t (yes there were still some snippets of genius here and there but generally his playing was sloppy and uninspired compared to the 70s)thankfully TMIB did reach another peak at the start of the 90s and again showed the rock world how it can be done.I am indeed an admirer of SM as well i think he is a great talent and does an excellent job with DP but he is no RB but then nobody is!! given the choice i would of course rather see DP MK2 but MK Morse are still a very fine band

Yes Al it was on the radio certainly in the uk anyway i had my wife tape it for me as i was at the show (with the legendary Tommy Vance doing the intros)but not the whole show if i remember correctly I think Dp got about 4 or 5 tracks including PS,Lazy and KAYBD in fact im sure the radio show ended with KAYBD with TV saying "who else could it be?"

The BBC did a Radio 1 'special' on the concert saturday, and did indeedy air the 4 tracks mentioned. However, soon after ( couple of weeks ?) they did a Friday Rock Show special- 'Knebworth through the night' where they broadcast all the support sets ( except the scorpions who had a live LP out at the time) & finished with the full DP set (apart from 'Under the Gun' for some reason). I stayed up until 3 in the morning to tape the damn thing!!

Damn I missed that

 emoticon
would have been a good momento of the ocassion to get at the time

i did, the worst cold I ever had, and a pair of ruined jeans and trainers!!!!

Irrespective of the quality of the gig, for me there's nothing to compare to that intro and first minute or so of Highway Star- it still raises the hairs on the back of the neck remembering the whole event today!!

One of the best things about that show is the atmostphere although the playing is average as stated by most in this thread. For me the moments of note are Perfect Strangers, RB's intros to Blues and Lazy, I also like the version of DTC. Pete
