CHOHW is superiorly produced than LIE1993!
I've just been listening to the songs from Stuttgat 1993 from CHOHW and from the release in Live In Europe 1993. What I noticed was a BIG difference in production. While I feel that CHOHW is a bit too polished and somehow lacks the ´´raw punch`` of LIE93 release, I have to say that CHOHW is SUPERIORLY produced.
First of all, on LIE93 release, the sound is too bassy, and most of the times you can't really hear what ol'boy Glover is playing. Lord is a bit low in the mix, while the drums and vocals are a bit too high. Also the instruments sound akward. Like I said, you can barely hear Glover most of the time, the drums sound somewhat muted and don't pack the punch of CHOHW release (and also listen to the DVD of the nec show for that), and the guitar also sounds better on CHOHW, it's got more clear crisp to it, and the clean tones in anya and black night really sound great, where on LIE93 release they sound ´´under the water`` <- I can't find a better term. Also if you listen to some of RB's fast runs (like in cit and the last run in speed king), it sound's a bit clearer and thus faster on the CHOHW release.
I would really like to hear Stuttgart 1993 FULL with the CHOHW production.
Sound freak or not, I am right I wonder who produced these releases? Beacuse whoever it was didn't really bother on LIE93. In fact I doubt he heard the band live at the time.

Re: CHOHW is superiorly produced than LIE1993!
I've always seen "On Tour MCMXCIII" as an item belonging to Deep Purple's " live official bootleg" policy, so as "Olympia 1996" or "KB 1985" or "In Concert 1970/1972". To me, the only official live albums from Deep Purple (when it comes to production) are "Made in Japan", "Live in London", "California Jam", "Nobody's Perfect", "Come Hell or High Water" and the "Concerto" issues and re-issues.

Agreed! If anything should've been muted, it should be Gillans vocals....or lack of it!

Re: CHOHW is superiorly produced than LIE1993!
Without going to consult the liner notes, weren't there at least two different producers involved in these recordings/releases? Didn't Pat Regan 'twiddle the knobs' for "Come Hell or High Water" while Ian Shepherd did the same for the "Live In Europe '93" release? Might this provide perhaps a slight explanation for any 'sonic' discrepancies?

Re: CHOHW is superiorly produced than LIE1993!
On CHOHW at least Gillan's vocals have been doctored.
I prefer LIE1993, it's raw and energic. CHOHW sounds brilliant, though.

I think you need both, because On Tour 1993 features the complete set list, with notably this incredible version of KaYBD...
