Why do people always have to mention Morse?

Re: The Cover

The cover is fine. If it was designed for an album in the early 70s, we'd all love it.

Let's be honest, some of those 1970s Purple covers were pretty poor.

The actual drawing is ok, I think. It's the way the total front cover is put together that looks so bad. The colours, the logo... The promo single for Rapture looked so much healthier, with the same drawing, but a lot better put together...

Re: The Cover

Purple had some really terrible covers over the years and ROTD is in my opinion one of the best examples.

The idea of the drawing is interesting but the overall layout is cheap - the colours, the letters, very cheap. It lacks the concept. It doesn't stay in mind for too long.

In Rock, Perfect Strangers, even Abandon and Bananas have a clue that you can stick to. ROTD lacks it. It's a pity. It's the 21st century for god's sake.

However, I'm not suprised with ROTD when I get to have look at Gillan's Inn cover. Covers with the most clear theme in Purple history in the last couple of years must be Snapshot, Bananas and Beyond The Notes.

The worst DP sleeve has to be HOBL. You really don't want to know what's behind that door!

In Rock: Great
Fireball: mediocre
Machine Head: Great
WDWTWA: good
Burn: good
Stormbringer: good
CTTB: mediocre
PS: good
THOBL: good
SM: bad
TBRO: mediocre
Purpendicular: great
Abandon: good
Bananas: good

I agree that the drawing (in ROTD cover) is good, it is the whole design (colors, font etc) that could have been done better.
