Set lists?
Hos is it going with the setlist on the tour? Are they keeping The Battle Rages On in the set?

Re: Set lists?
POH
TINS
SKOW
Rapture
Fireball
ITF
Steve's Solo
WDG
WABMC
Lazy
TBRO (yes, it's still there)
Don's Solo
PS
ST
HS
Smoke
Hush
BN
That's it, the gigs are great, but the setlist isn't; not enough new songs, not enough changes with the november setlist and I really could do without SKOW, Space Truckin', Hush etc.

Re: Set lists?
I'm really in a sad mood after have read the "new" setlist, it can't be true, on the
Gillan tour was 2 old/new Purple tracks, now we got the same story once more from our dear old friends I CAN ONLY SAY ITS NOT FAIR.

Re: Set lists?
Typical Purple set list. Why the hell are they so afraid of changing the set list??? Are they going to do "Made In Japan" over and over and over again until they break up??? What ever happened to the "Deep Purple fun bag" Gillan used to talk about, where Steve could dig into to find rare Purple songs for them to do??? Why not Wasted Sunsets and Not Responsible, like Gillan did on his solo tour??? Why not some new songs from WDWTWA like Super Trouper and Smooth Dancer?
This sucks!!!

I must say I think all this complaining about the setlist is a bit over the top. They HAVE really dug into the funbag after Ritchie left. A lot has happened since Made In Japan. The list of new old songs and new new songs played are long.. And people WANT to thear classics when they go to see DP for the first, second or... fourth time.
I think the setlists use to be quite balanced and good.

Re: Set lists?
Re: TBRO. Sounds like Gillan has changed the first part of the verses to a fit lower register.

Re: Set lists?
According to what I have read, in relation to set-lists, Roger Glover is quoted as saying "That debate rages on. We see people's wish-lists, and as a fan I'd love to be able to play some of that stuff too. The reality is that most people want more obvious things, like Smoke on the Water.
Catering for the hard-core is just unrealistic."
Two things, how would the band really know what most people want to hear? Of course, it is the "hard-core" this and other fan sites. How does the band think they got where they are - was it Joe average? Why does the band release multiple version of CD, why so many live CDs. How is it that the Rolling Stones have an enormous repertoire that they rotate? I saw the Stones at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney. The Enmore is a small 2,000 seater. They played many obscure songs and just a few of the classics. They then played Acer Arena for two nights, apparently playing all their classics. Acer is a 10,000 seater. The hard-core no doubt went to all concerts and were very, very happy. The average punter went to the larger venue and no doubt was happy. Cater for both groups and make everyone. It ain't that hard.
Rant over.

Re: Set lists?
To be fair, they did do a very hardcore-pleasing set at The Astoria in London last year. I think they should do a tour of 2,000 venues like they did in 2002.

Re: Set lists?
Yep, two nights at every location, 2,000 seaters every night, the first night for the Joe average of the world, the second night for the hard-core. The band and the crew get a bit of a breather with less travelling and the punters are happy. Bring it on!!
