Re: Wembley gig!!!! 28/4
Also enjoyed it.
BUT
What the hell went on down the front with the Steward[s]???? !!!!
I mean for a 61 year old Mr Gillan can't half get off a stage quick!!!
<-- IG about to leap off!
If you were there you will know what I mean.
Plus
If anyone gets a Bootleg you will hear a very clear "F*ck off" during "Things I never said."
To do it during a song with that title was hilarious!
I think at one stage he threatened never to go back to Wembley?
Completely ruined my meditative reverie, but what the hell?!

Can anyone elaborate on this incident? I think Ian Gillan's attitude towards security personell is spot on and I really admire him for it.

Re: Wembley gig!!!! 28/4
Hi, it's me again. My son wrote the op in the hotel next to the venue.
I can't enlighten you much about the incident, except to say that the big screns showed someone with a big camera waliking away from the stage. I assumed the expletive was directed at him and thought it was a bit harsh, but after the song IG something like " Sorry about the flash of orange, I just wish the staff at this place would treat customers with respect. In fact, I'm not sure we want this hell hole as a venue again." That was the gist of it, and I now assume that some 'attendants' (with fluorescent orange jackets) had prevented someone from taking some photos, though I could be wrong!
Anyway, DP were on great form and the audience seemed to have a lot of hard core fans judging by the t-shirts (there were quite a few in our hotel, the Wembley Plaza) which created a great atmosphere. Set list as previous night as far as I can remember. The only down side for me was no Perfect Strangers or Speed King. Also, not much chat from IG (perhaps due the incident).
My son loved it and even my long-suffering wife admitted it was 'very good', praise indeed!

Interesting! Same set list?
Might well have been!?!!
Sorry, but I've come to the conclusion, I am probably completely the wrong person to ask!
owing to :

Once they're off, I'm out for the count.
"They" refers to the band.

Re: Wembley gig!!!! 28/4
The stewards had a thankless task! I was in the 6th row in an aisle seat. As soon as Purple hit the stage loads of people just ran down the aisles to watch. The stewards have a job to do and whether I agree or not the tried to get them to return to their seats. This went on for the 4 or 5 songs and completely ruined the gig for me. People were just being plain obnoxious and pushing into me, and many others, not caring at all who was shoved, had drink spilt on them etc.
Gillan just saw the orange jackets and assumed the stewards were 100% to blame (He did the same at Wembley in 1987 too!). Personally, I was glad when the "aisle dodgers" were removed because then I could concentrate on watching a blindingly good Purple performance.
Gillan later told one steward standing next to me to "F*ck off!". The bloke was just standing there minding his own business!
I'm sure many will say the stewards were heavy handed but, if you could ask the other people sat in the same area I was, I'm sure you'd get a different answer!
Great gig though!!

Re: Wembley gig!!!! 28/4
The same thing happend at Bournemouth on Friday. In between Styx and Deep Purple a crowd had gathered all along the front of the stage. Before Purple came on the stewards worked hard getting everyone to return to their seats, but as soon as the lights went out people appeared from everywhere and stood in front of the people who had front row seats.
Now don't get me wrong, I know this happens all the time, but it always seems to be fat middle aged twats who think they have got some sort of god given right to stand where they like, even though they bought tickets for row Q

That's why there shouldn't be seats at any rock concerts, or any venue that host a rock concert!
--- "It can't be hemmoroids! Everybody knows he's a perfect asshole!" Ian Gillan commenting on Blackmore's mystery illness causing show cancelations...a long time ago!

Agreed!! Well, to an extent anyway.
From the side I had an ok view, but the screens meant I never saw Tommy Aldridge, Paicey or Don (without looking at the screens, side-on).
I could see the crowds massing at the front, and it was obvious that seats on the arena floor, at the front, just weren't needed.
If you're an oldie who doesn't fancy getting crushed (or any age for that matter), there were plenty of other seats with great views!
I'm sure people will disagree with me, but I remember being near the front at the Astoria and generally people were well behaved
Oh, and yes it was a blinding set by Purple! (Literally in places, what was with the epilepsy-inducing lights?!!) Ian G let out a belter of a scream during Into the Fire!
