posticon Deep Purple's Ticket Sales Numbers From Ticketmaster

Nothing official, I just did some research through Ticketmaster and Venues and examined seating charts, capacities, and tickets left available and came up with these ballpark numbers.

Clearwater, Florida at Ruth Eckerd Hall July 15th: 1950(2200)

Clarkston, Michigan at DTE Energy Theatre July 27th: about 7,500(15,275)

Boston, Massachusets at Bank Of America Pavillion July 31st: about 1,800(5000)

Wallingford, Connecticut at Chevrolet Theatre on August 2nd: about 3,600(5000)

Atlantic City, New Jersey at House Of Blues on August 4th: about 1400(2000)

New York, New York at Radio City Music Hall on August 7th: about 1800(6000)

Costa Mesa, California at Pacific Amphitheatre on August 12th: about 6200(8000)

Sun City West, Arizona at Maricopa County Events Center on August 17th: maybe 1200(7050)I assume this will be cancelled. The venue has 53 rows spread across five sections and DP has sold just 9 rows.

Las Vegas, Nevada at Hard Rock Hotel on August 18th: about 350(1400)

San Antonio, Texas at The Majestic Theatre on August 23rd: about 800(1300)

Houston, Texas at Verizon Wireless Theatre on August 24th: about 1900(2400)

THESE ARE ALL SEMI-EDUCATED ESTIMATES BASED ON WHAT I SAID ABOVE. Spent maybe an hour sorting this out, I did all the research I could short of calling the venue/promoter and asking. My process was to go to ticketmaster, select best available, relate that to the seating chart, and then find the capacity to the venue. So if DP had sold to row I out of rows A-Z and the venue seats 1000 that means DP has basically sold 333 of the tickets. This ovb wasn't the case for any it's just a simple example.

Radio City's not lookin' so good (they're so damned overpriced there).

They should be getting a bigger "pop" in the biggest city, even if noone there knows about anything after Perfect Strangers.

I did my part (2 tix).

Just noticed that 1 of the U.S.A shows has already been cancelled.
Not sure how valid your figures are, but i am sure that you
are fairly confident of your findings, so i have say that
it looks a poor turnout indeed emoticon

No publicity doesn't help. In my part of the USA, even the Classic Rock stations seemed to have forgotten DP. I've not heard one mention of the tour. Yet, If Robert Plant of Jimmy Page mumble something to the press, it will be covered all over the place. Oh no, just two months from now, one of the biggest classic rock stations will be having it's annual "Zeptember" month It's overkill!! How about a "Purptober"?!!

Interesting and logical principle to calculating the tickets sold, but if the US is anything like the UK, several rows of 'prime' tickets are kept back for corporate packages, promoter/record company/booking agent guests, etc.
(Infuriatingly, in the UK those not taken up then get put on sale on the night in the venue box office, so fans sat at the back of supposedly sold-out shows have the dilemma of taking a loss and going for the front rows, or sticking with those poor seats.)

As I say, not sure if its the same practice in the US, but keep in mind when viewing the figures, I guess!

Not disputing your figures, but did you just ask for one ticket? There could be a full hall with a few good single seats left, then your estimates would be completely off. I have been offered (for example) row 20 if I want two tickets or row 5 if I only want one ticket.

Do you have an idea WHY they seem to have forgotten DP? Do you think that all the radio guys are Zep freaks or could it have to do something with the musical evolution of DP and the departure of a certain banjo player who is (or at least was) very popular in the USA?

Oh, it's perfectly legitimate for you to dispute them, I dispute them myself. The sales could probably swing either way by about 350, a margin of error if you like. I always selected two tickets, and most venues try and crunch people together, thus not having 3 people, empty seat, 4 people, 2 empty seats etc it would just be seven people beside each other. It would look like crap if they had 2000 people spread around a 6000 seat venue but if everyone came to the front it's prob much easier for the band. So yeah, these are just predictions from what I said, and two tickets is what I usually went by. I usually increased the number of tickets by about 50, depending on the venue, and didn't do arenas that are general admission.

I was at the Clearwater show and it rocked!!!

It also was a sell-out 2200+, no tickets left at the box office. Not bad with no promo, no RB and JL.

Hell they could have easily played in a bigger place.

From what I heard all shows that they have played thus far have been sold out and I can personally confirm Clearwater.

Ticketmaster doesn't have the entire scope.
