Boston show Jul 31, 2007 - audience, crew and all that

Anybody was at the Boston show yesterday? Am I the only one why thinks it was very wired?

I got to enjoy only about 1/3rd of my favorite band's show because of a series of being pushed around first by my seatmate (fat enough to have to use half of mine and stank and threw beer) and then being hunted by the crew to force me back to my seat. "Me" includes my wife on her first purple show.

But from my observation it was very bad at least in my section for most people. The section left of the mixing desk. I have seen about a dozen people getting kicked out altogether. Lots of people trying to stand and the "crew" forcing them back. I have seen people being escorted back to their seats during the second encore, the last song. Come on, are these people serious?

The whole show it seems like the band and the audience were on two different shows.

That's too bad because musically it was one of the better shows. And sound-wise, too. I think Highway Star from yesterday was the best I ever heard, and it was the first time that I liked Don's play in old Purple songs for extended periods of time.

Anybody else has been there and likes to comment?

I was not at that show, but have seen a number of concerts at the Pavilion before, including DP in 2004. The security crew there is very tough, you cannot stand anywhere but at your seat. They are really strict about it. No moving towards the stage, no crowd up front, definitely no standing in aisles. Just the way they run the place.

I've been at the 2004 show, too, but for whatever reason it was much worse Tuesday. Oh well, I'm all set for Hampton beach now.

I wish I had known about the Hampton show sooner, I only found out about recently. All the decent seats are long since gone. Ah well, I shouldn't spend the money anyway. emoticon

I'm confused. Isn't the Casino an area where you can stand in front of the stage anyway?

At least that was the case with Gillan's Inn. I had tickets for some seats but it is impossible to find your seat in there anyway so we just stood around.

Well, maybe for concerts, I don't know, but they definitely sell assigned seating there. There are different price sections, the "A" seats, which are right in front of the stage, the "B" seats, whcih surround those, and the General Admission seats, which is everywhere else. How much people stick to those, I don't know, but we saw George Carlin there last week, and everyone stayed in there general sections. And since there are tables and chairs tightly packed together, it would be hard to all jam up in fron ot the stage.

The Casino Ballroom. I absolutely hate that place. As much as the security can be tight at the Boston Pavilion, I'll never go back to the Casino Ballroom, unless I could get in the gold seat section. The last time I went was Jethro Tull in '04. They had 4 people to a table the size of a foot stool and it was a sold out show. There were more people getting wasted, looking for a fight, and running audio commentaries from audience members unlike any small show I've been to. I'll be interested to hear how the Purple crowd is at the Ballroom.

OK, that means they put chairs where there was an open area for Gillan's Inn.

Mumble...

Whatever happened to rock concerts?

I was in the gold seat area for Carlin. But the place is a dive, no doubt. They do seem to get some decent performers there though.
