Warhorse

What are their albums like? (and I don't mean that the cover of 'Red Sea' is a 'Fireball' rip-off)
Was Warhorse better than Fandango?

Re: Warhorse

Warhorse is an excellent band. They made great rough rock based on simple riffs, but with a sound which Motorhead could claim to be inspired by.

They only did two. You may be able to get them on Amazon. Both are great, but their self-titled debut is their finest.

An excellent British rock band in the Purple, Heep, Sabbath vein.

Fandango are excellent too. They only did two albums as well, which you can get on the same disc.

More commercially tinged than Warhorse, but excellent band as well. Like a cross between ZZ Top and Nazareth. Or something.

Re: Warhorse

I only lost my Warhorse virginity just a few days ago when I bought an album 'Deep Purple and Friends' (for 3 quid); there are two tracks by Warhorse on there, 'Burning' and 'St Louis'.
My first impression, if you want a comparison, was to Steppenwolf. But yes, a bit Purplish, Heepish too - there's big organ doing it's thing in there (if you'll pardon the expression!)
I'll be making an effort to get hold of some more Warhorse.
There was also a track by Fandango (Candice Larene) included which had a very similar feel too. It somehow reminded me of Blue Oyster Cult.

The first Warhorse album is superb, Red Sea is very good, too.

I have the Fandango albums (on 2-disc release, like Rahul said). Definitely not as good as Warhorse, more like 'okay'.

I just saw "Red Sea" in a record shop in Brussels (CD). I got "Vulture Blood" as a vinyl LP. As soon as I get my USB turntable...

For example, Jerry Bloom's MBTP Shop has them all, reasonably priced. Amazon.co.uk is probably a tad cheaper though.

Their first album is great, very consistent and heavy. It sounds like Purple, Heep and a lot of other early 70's bands. The second is not so great and sounds like it was rushed. There's a ton of filler, including a meandering unaccompanied guitar solo and even a pointless drum solo. They appear to have gone into the studio with about half an album's worth of material, and just took up space with the rest. I wouldn't say that they're a better band than Fandango, just very different.
