The Mark One Advocation Syndicate:

The Mark One Advocation Syndicate:

A place for those of us with our roots in psychedelic purple and Evans-mania, to strut our stuff! A place that remembers when Lord and Simper sang harmonies and the vocal work rounded out the beauty of the chord progressions.

The golden age when DP's composition was from the heart because there was no money nor reputation at stake. (Heck! There wasn't even any money back then).

A place that subscribes to the notion that artists are their most creative when they are desperate and yearning for better, rather than when they have already achieved and are therefore comfortable.

Anyone else feel this way?

It's time for us to grab our own table at the INN ROCK, dress up in our Edwardian garb, and have our voices be heard.

I officially call the first meeting of the Mark One Advocation Syndicate to order!!

Purple Evans or Floyd Barret, I feel quite the same for both.

I like them A LOT(yes really more than quite) but more when I´m in the right mood, rather than *always on every occasion* but that doesn´t say much for me. But rather I prefer them on the peak of their careers.
For me it´s more than I respect them as what they were in the part of the bands histories, but still they both don´t belong to my favourite line-ups for both.

I can see your point quite clearly, though.emoticon

Sign me up John, though can you come up with a better acronym than the MOAS?

Nigel
PS It was Jon and Nick doing the harmonies.

Nigel,

I agree that the acronym was a tad on the weak side, though I was anxious to get the idea across, and figured I'd take name change suggestions after I had put the idea out there.

Nick and Jon? Now there's a surprise. I did not know that. I often thought to myself how was Jon able to get such chords out of the Hammond, when infact what I think I was hearing all these years were actually harmonies. They were so important I've come to find.

I wonder why they didn't continue that tradition into early Mark II? I guess everyone was too busy playing the guts out of their instruments to worry about singing.

Early Mark II song, Hallelujah and I´m pretty sure there´s some backing vocals on it.

This cropped up recently on another thread: I pointed out that one of the last known times that Roger and Jon did harmonies was on the Doebiedoe TV show, on the 'see me fly' lines in Speed King, in January 1970 - no, before you ask, I don't have the film but the audio and the photos confirm it happened.

For me the only "Deep Purple" is mark 1.

Each following mark is a different band... with the same name emoticon

I think today should be a mark1 day for me emoticon

Roger sang background and harmony on WDWTWA and since then
he has also sang on Bananas HOP.
(says Bradford)
Check the back of the markI U.S. album covers to see what they say as far as who sang goes, you may be surprised.
