Isn't it supposed to be either Rod Evans or Jon Lord but it's probably neither because it's almost certainly stock material taken from an audio library like the howling or the fire engine?.

The only evidence of who it may be I've read is Jon Lord, but I'm trying to remember where I read it,probably CC's biography or something.

I have that one, I got it from my dad who must´ve owned it back in the day. Great stuff, but really short(almost as short as an EP). Kyrie Eleison is a classic, you hear it in Easy Rider just after JN was killed and they consider going to the brothel.

Hi Burner!

I love MK1 too, but what are you like with other psychedelia?

I've been getting more and more into it over the last year, with albums by Jefferson Airplane, Vanilla Fudge, Love, Traffic, Country Joe, and Quicksilver Messenger Service.

Mass in F Minor - Electric Prunes

I like Vanilla Fudge (I have the Rennaissance Album), Traffic (Dear Mr. Fantasy & Low Spark...), and Jefferson Airplane.

There's much stuff I like from the era, but don't necessarily know the names of.

I also like the Moody Blues from 1969. The album "To Our Children's Children's Children" is a good one. I like the song "Gypsy of A Strange and Distant Time".

Also Procol Harum: "Christmas Camel", "Conquistador", "Outside the Gates of Cerdes", and of course..."Whiter Shade".

I like just about every song off of Traffic's "Dear Mr. Fantasy", but especially like "Dealer".

"Journey to the Center of Your Mind", is another good song.

I also like the song "The Israelites" by Desmond Decker and the Aces.

Iron Butterfly..."Time of Our Lives" was a nice song that didn't get the recognition that "Innagaddadavida" got, but should have.

That's all I can think of for now.

It's a fabulous album, but seriously weird. Gregorian chanting over swirls of psychedelic guitar and organ. I'm gonna check out some of their earlier stuff, which ie meant to be a bit more accessible. I just picked it up cheap at a CD shop last week, after hearing good things about them.

I'm on a bit of a psychedelic trip at the moment, if you'll pardon the pun.

Check out Moby Grape too! There was some extrememly interesting music to come out of this scene around this time. It may not be to everyone's taste and some of it is terrible, but when it works, it's marvellous!

PS. Did you know that Mass in F Minor actually has two different bands line-ups playing on it? I think it shows in parts.

I'd like to take the opportunity of this thread to express my great appreciation of Rod Evans for his excellent singing, and my enduring regret that, should he ever try to sing in public again, he'll be hogtied and carted off to court by Purple's management.

He screwed up, and it's a shame, but I sure wish that he was still making music.

My home! emoticon

Hush remain to this very day Purple's best song. So catchy, full of rythm, a true feel good tune that doesn't sound a bit like nothing else. Jon's organ is the edge here, as on all mk I album's.

I've noticed Roger Glover's comment on the Bananans production, that he would used more time developing ideas. I'm not sure. The problem with Bananas (and opposite the advantage of Shades) is the precise and clean cut production. It doesn't sound no real! Sounds nothing live! I've always favoured Blackmore's idea of studio work, fast and to the point with as few overdubs as possible. Jon Lord always was a master of playing under such conditions, and Ritchie too, and from this strategy rises the untouchable quality of Shades.

Re: The Mark One Advocation Syndicate:

I was recently peeping at my Berlin release party video and I had to do a double take to see if it was the Banans cd or that video I had in because of the sound of Gillans voice during Haunted,it's exactly
the same distinct tone as the cd,unbelievable resemblance, but thats not the only time I've thought about how live
the Bananas cd sounds,I noticed it right off the bat.
There were and still are complaints about the production and overall outcome of the sound on this cd,I have never witnessed any clipping, rice crispy crackling and distortion that so many people have bithced about.
I'd say that it's the manufacturers fault here and not Michael Bradford.
The complaints I notied have come from European copies ONLY.
I have a U.K. copy and nothing is wrong with the sound at all,I also have a Japanese and a U.S. copy as well.
I do notice that the best sounding one happens to be the U.S. copy, but the others are just fine and have no distortion to speak of,the U.S. one just happens to sound a little better,I can't quite explain it though.

Have you bought UK, US and Japanese versions?? And can comfirm the sound is slightly different on all? emoticon emoticon
May it be your sci-fi 6.1 equipment that makes the difference?
