Ian Gillan ill??
Is Ian Gillan ill with something?? I was recently watching the interview on the brazilian program on youtube from last week, and his voice sounds shredded, he looks like hes lost 50+ pounds in the last 6 months, his hair is going, and he seems exhausted. Is there anything wrong with him?? I'm not trying to start a rumor blah blah blah... just a few observations.

Re: Ian Gillan ill??
Hadn't he just heard about his bass player.....
That would be enough to make him sound whacked out.
Or he could just have had a local stomach bug on the day.

The report about Rodney Appleby being shot was dated 26/11.
Therefore, I would assume the actual event was on 25/11 at the latest.
The band had their first date in Brazil on 25/11.
According to the Highway Star they were on this Brazilian program on the Monday - 27 November. Youtube says it was broadcast on 27/11.
Therefore, my guess is he was still in a state of shock over what had happened and unsure about what the likely outcome was.
In other words - there is a very easy and obvious explanation for him looking exhausted - "tired and emotional" - bless him!
[Which is why even I have avoided any sarcastic comments about his costuming i.e. that military-style headgear thingie.] [ ]
As for losing weight in the last few months - wouldn't do him any harm!!

Re: Ian Gillan ill??
I don't think that Gillan has been looking too good for a while. Maybe it is because he has lost a boatload of weight and turned real grey. It could be the sauce and the cancer sticks catching up with him. I dunno.
Either way, look at pictures from a few years ago. His hair had changed to grey, but he didn't look too boney. Now he looks like someone coming out of chemo or rehab. It just doesn't look very healthy. Maybe he is working out without enough caloric intake. It does look like he got thin prety quickly. As I said, too many years of coffin nails and excess hooch may have much to do with it.

He must be very aware of it considering he's lost a couple of mates during the last couple of years.
1) George Best, late 50s, liver failure, world famous alcoholic
2) Tommy Vance, 63, stroke, heavy smoker
OK. To square.......
It isn't just how he looks. It is how he speaks. I feel he frequently cannot get through a whole sentence in interviews. He sounds almost permantly addled. And it is probably the long term consequences of the drink.
Plus he does seem to be putting a lot of effort into what looks like securing his legacy - the album, the tour, the book, the DVD, remasters.
But hey, who knows.........
He is 61 and manages to maintains a heavy travel schedule, which I couldn't and wouldn't want to do!
I just try to make the most of them while we've got them. Anyone of them or on here could be run over by a bus "tomorrow".
May they all continue for many years to come!

I don't like the combinations of my thoughts right now.
To give a medecinical explanation for what you wrote: The liver isn't able to clean up the ammoniak. The ammoniak comes into the blood and the blood poisons the brain. It ends up in a rapture of the deep.
But hey, who knows (except Gillan himself)...
I like to believe in the never ending tour stress and many many more years for
all.

Re: Ian Gillan ill??
Well, although he doesn't seem to look good I think we're exaggarating. He's 61 for God's sake. I'm just a few years younger and I know that it's very often a matter of bad day that you can transform into a zombie because of various reasons, like bad weather, too heavy drinking on previous night, too much cigarettes, but that's how it is.

Re: Ian Gillan ill??
I don´t think it happened drastically in the last year or so. He managed to get down from what he looked like in the late 90s/early 00s very good in the last 5 years or so.
