Re: One Eye To Morroco
Would be interested in hearing your thoughts after you've heard it in full, Rezi. I believe it's a grower.

Cheers, I will post more detailed comments when I've listened to the album a few times. Like I said, so far (now about half way through) it sounds like a very good album indeed.

Re: One Eye To Morroco
AFAIK, I love it! I'm a fan of Dreamcatcher and I think I will enjoy OEtM even more! Ian isreally really good in his new style, more introspective, providing new opportunities for his mature voice.
And the coversleeve is great!

Re: One Eye To Morroco
I've listened to it three times now. One or two weaker tracks, otherwise it might be the best Gillan album since Mr. Universe.
The production is almost perfect, the man sings excellently, and I really must emphasize the obvious importance of Steve Morris as a writer. The artistic success of this album must be credited to him, too.
As an album this is a stronger collection of songs than most albums out there.
This is so different to most stuff IG has done in the past so at times I heard not so obvious similarities to other artists. For some reason Deal with It reminds me of latter day Dire Straits and Knopfler solo material, while somewhere else Jeff Buckley came to mind.
I'm only mentioning this to highlight two things: this album is both different and better to most of IG's work with DP of late. And that the man's spectrum of tones as a singer is remarkable on the album.
I think this album has far more commercial potential than any album DP would put out. Let's see if the record company puts any effort in promoting it.
Favourite track so far: The Sky Is Falling Down.

Re: One Eye To Morroco
It Would Be Nice is one of the best songs he's ever done. The title track is also great.
The songs are too short, though. In 2005, Gillan said what's the point in three, three-and-a-half minute songs as they're over before they start and that concept was invented by commercial radio anyway. I've e-mailed him to point this out!
That's my only complaint, it has a great feel and I like the artwork as well. I got the Ltd edition from HMV.com which came signed by the man himself.

Re: One Eye To Morroco
I love 'it would be nice' for me the best and most original track Gillan has produced in 30 years. The vocals are relaxed and therefore sound unforced throughout the album. The weaker tracks come and go and are inoffensive . I would say the title track and always the traveller plus it would be nice are the three stand out tracks. Would it be so wrong for Deep Purple to produce an album so well produced and yet so diverse in styles . Gillans voice sounds so much better on oetm and gillans inn compared to the last two purple releases ,is it all down to the producer or is he simply more relaxed without the pressure of preforming on a deep purple release?

Re: One Eye To Morroco
Michael Bradford has a crap ear for music, his playing and producing are rubbish. So it's the producer!

Re: One Eye To Morroco
Interesting, Fule and Telboy: IWBN is probably my least favourite track on the album and the heavier part sounds to me closest to IG's 1990s solo albums. Especially because of the double tracked vocals (which I'm not a big fan of).
My favourite tracks of OETM:
The Sky Is Falling Down
Don't Stop
Girl Goes To Show
