Reborn Again in ’08 or Stone Dead Forever

Will Deep Purple be reborn again and celebrate their 40th anniversary next year or remain as they have been for more than a decade, stone dead forever?

1. Lord’s Dream: One possibility is for all living members to get together for a charity concert. Although it would be nice to see Simper perform in Purple again, Evans was pathetic in the first of many bogus lineups to abuse the band name and would only embarrass himself. Turner and Morse were never welcomed by a majority of the fans. Marks II and III reuniting for a one-off concert would be more credible.

2. Mark II reunion: Blackmore wrote Machine Head with Mark II which will always be regarded as the classic lineup. Still, there are many problems with a reunion. The last two studio albums were bitter disappointments. Blackmore has said that he would perform anniversary shows if asked, but Gillan and Glover have repeatedly rejected all attempts at a reunion. Sadly, it’s unlikely this lineup will perform even a single concert next year.

3. Mark III reunion. Hughes tried to make it happen but Coverdale put an end to the rumors probably after Blackmore said he was uninterested. Blackmore and Gillan have had strong clashes over the years, yet Blackmore is willing to perform with Mark II again. He seems to genuinely detest Hughes and a Mark III reunion is even more unlikely next year.

4. Rainbow reunion. If Blackmore and Lord sincerely want to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Deep Purple next year and play hard rock together again then Rainbow would actually be more realistic. Dio has admitted to trying at reuniting Rainbow and Lord has recently worked with Daisley. Blackmore has said that he would like to move Blackmore’s Night in a more hard rock direction even if Candy can’t sing hard rock. A double CD featuring new songs and new recordings of some of Blackmore’s Night heavier songs would be a great way for Rainbow to reunite. Dio is enjoying himself in Heaven & Hell and Blackmore is unlikely to do anything to upset his precious Candy.

Will Deep Purple be reborn again or remain stone dead forever? In all probability, a valid Deep Purple lineup will never perform together again because Gillan and Glover are both selfish bastards that really don’t give a damn about the fans!

Deep Purple still exists including 2 of the 3 players.

Blackmore is the one who walked out of the band after acting like a spoiled 3 year old whose mommy wouldn't give him candy.

Blackmore is currently and willingly dressing like up as Robin Hood, playing lutes and playing in the basements of churches.

Rainbow has a better chance to unite with JLT than Dio.

Lord can take the strains of tours anymore.

Most people would not care one bit about a Mark II or III reunion.

How could the first lineup be bogus when no other lineup of Deep Purple existed then?

There is a better chance the ghost of Tommy Bolin will come back and do a Mark IV reunion than your scenarios will happen. The ghost of Tommy Bolin pleasantly graced himself at the other forum, so this is a possibility.

It's too late for a reunion of any sort. Let's just accept what is and be done with it. If you want to see reunions, look to 1985 and 1993. MK II wouldn't sound better today when compared to 1993 if they tried. They are getting old, it's time to realize it. We were fortunate, if you can call it that, to see Heaven and Hell for one final yahoo.

Mark III wouldn't sound as good. When I listen to San Diego 74 and hear that great version of Mistreated, with David's voice echo through that concert hall at the end, there's no chance of repeating that.

Let's leave well enough alone, since the band members are finally happy. Morse sounds good with the current DP. Coverdale is happy with WS. Hughes is happy working with everyone. Dio is happy working with TI and GB, and his own band. Blackmore loves his wife and is happy, maybe not with Blackmore's Night, but he's happy. And the pursuit of happiness is worth more than all of it. Besides, they deserve it. They have worked their butts off over the years, they should be doing what they want at this stage of the game.

Also Jon Lord's "Dream" was a miss-quote. He never really said he wanted to do that.

Gillan’s performances were so pitiful that Blackmore was right to leave.

It’s hard to believe Blackmore could be foolish enough to reunite Rainbow with Turner, but that’s what Dio thought after speaking with him.

Lord has enviable genes and will likely outlive many of his former mates. The fact that he has no interest in touring endlessly like Gillan doesn’t mean he’s not open to touring.

Either a Mark II or III reunion would be more popular than Heaven & Hell.

I think most people understood that I was referring to the lineup in the 80’s not Mark I.

Gillan and Glover are certainly happy with the money they make playing Blackmore’s music.

Well said Sir!

John that is, not the comments of Reborn which sound a wee bit bitter, although I respect his opinion. Just don't agree.

Actually, that is true in case of any band.
