waysted/pig iron at the twist colchester sat 1st march.
i went to the twist at colchester sat night and saw waysted and pig iron.
what a superb gig!
never heard of pig iron before.
their tour poster went on about having top 13 album
in the top 50 classic rock albums of 2007.
what an interesting contrast this band are.
for the first half of the show, they were quite bluesy influenced rock.
cross the answer with lynyrd skynyrd playing harmonica and your somewhere close.
so a complete suprise when the next song they did was very heavy.
kind of reminded me of a cross between iron man and war pigs by sabbath.
the rest of the set continued in the same vein.
very contrasting styles, that somehow worked.
waysted are a band that have been round years and ive never seen.
i didnt know any of their stuff either, so wasnt sure what to expect.
have to say they were fabulous old school type rock.
slightly more aggressive rock than ufo.
singer fin has a tremendous voice, although was quite hard to understand his between song banter with his strong scottish accent and the 2 guitarists were
very energetic.
when pete way was on stage, i just couldnt stop thinking of
maidens steve harris.
this was his band and they play the music he wants.
this music was very easy to get into, covering a vast range of albums from
what i could make out, with only a couple of songs from new album the harsh reality.
at the end, pete way came out chatted to fans, posed for photos and kindly signed all (7) of my ufo cds.
he came across as a thoroughly nice bloke who couldnt do enough for people.
complete constrast to micheal schenker who cleared off at the end of his gig there.
anyway i cant highly recommend seeing these 2 bands enough.
i had a thoroughly great night out.

I saw Waysted about 1984,opening for Ozzy, and thought they were a good ,straight-ahead rock outfit, but I'm unfamiliar with Pig Iron-great name though! CHEERS
