Whitesnake, March 31st

My first (and more than likely only given that it is the first time they have been to Australia in 14 years) Whitesnake gig, and I was not dissapointed.

The opening act Skintilla seemed a strange choice, not that they were bad. They were obviously very heavily influenced by Pantera, and while not my cup of tea, for what it was I thought they were quite good. Still not good enough to stop me popping out to the bar for a beer though.

Whitesnake came out at about 9:15, and played through until 11, with only a two minute gap between the end of Here I Go Again and the encore.

The band were very tight, and DC was in fine form. His voice may not be what it once was, but he still puts on a good show.

They opened up with a new song (Best Years), before getting the crowd really involved during Fool For Your Loving and Love Ain't No Stranger.

They continued to power on until Doug's solo spot, where, as in CD and DVDs I have heard, he failed to impress. Don't get me wrong, I think his solos are fine during the songs. His solo spot is just uninteresting to me.

They then kicked on into the drum solo, and continued to power on through the set.

The show was not without falts though. The band members were given a different set list to 'Cov, and halfway through the intro to Give Me All Your Love, DC cut the band off, and then after threatening to sack Frazier on stage (light heartedly of course), turned on a roadie and got the whole place booing the guy, not for messing up the setlists, but for wearing a Led Zeppelin shirt. They then played Call on Me before returning to Give Me All Your Love.

The crowd got really worked up for Here I Go Again. The encores Still of the Night and, particually, Burn were the highlights of the evening for me.

My only minor qualm was with the setlist (sigh). The new songs seem to have come into the set at the expense of Ready and Willing and Take Me With You, two favourite tracks from the recent DVD.

In summarising, perhaps not the best gig I have been to, but It was the most fun. emoticon

Sounds like a fun show at least. Still persevering with the drum and guitar solos I see (will they never learn that a fully fledged instrumental would be so much more interesting if DC has to rest). Agree about your track comments. Thanks for this.

Two of the worst time wasters in concerts, guitar and drum solos. They are generally boring as all get out, and is time that could better be put to use for another song or two.

Perhaps DC wants to go off for a fag or something!
