Judas Priest Kansas City, Missouri August 1st, 2008
I just saw Judas Priest, Jackyl, Drowning Pool, and Federation Of Horsepower last night here in Kansas City. The opening bands were merely time killers while we waited for the main event, Judas Priest. This was my first time seeing Priest since 1979, when I saw them open for UFO.
Priest were pretty good, but Halford's voice is REALLY shot. His low range was ok, but every time he went into the upper register it just went to hell. Painkiller was an embarrassment, with Halford literally squealing the lyrics as opposed to singing them. He let the audience sing a lot of the choruses, which the 10,000+ crowd was more than willing to do. Tipton and Downing sang a lot more than in the past, carrying a lot of the weight for Halford. Still, it was an interesting setlist with a lot of unusual choices from their extensive back catalog.
Dawn of Creation/Prophecy
Metal Gods
Eat Me Alive
Between The Hammer And The Anvil
Devil's Child
Breaking The Law
Hell Patrol
Dissident Aggressor
Angel
The Hellion/Electric Eye
Rock Hard, Ride Free
Painkiller
encore
Hell Bent For Leather
The Green Manalishi
You've Got Another Thing Coming

Saw them in Norway in June. Halford didn't have any problems then, and I don't believe that the guitarslingers sang anything at all. Well, as the tour wears on...

Happened to arrive in K.C. myself that very day-- though my arrival had nothing to do with the J.P. concert.
Wasn't it humid and hot as hell that week? It was all anyone could do to stay inside.
About your concert: Always a bit of a disappointment to see those you respect and revere, lose their touch. Age is the great equalizer...is it not?

It was agonizingly hot and humid that night. At 10:00pm, it was still in the 90's. There was absolutely was no way to get comfortable or cool off.
Age is indeed the great equalizer. They put on a great show and I have all the respect in the world for their efforts. There was almost a 30 year gap between seeing them in concert and it certainly showed. It was still a cool show though.
