Soldier Of Fortune Live
Does anyone know of any decent live versions of SOF? The best version in my opinion is the one where the first verse is tagged onto the end of Mistreated (as performed by Whitesnake) on the missing missing Live in the Heart.... tracks - located here in the Coverdale section
Is there a FULL live version (preferably performed by Purple) available anywhere?

There is a full live version on Whitesnake's Starkers in Tokyo acoustic album. I think Rainbow may have done it in the White years (not sure about this!), and Blackmore's Night have performed it I'm sure.
I don't know of any versions performed live by Deep Purple. Others around here know alot more than me though.
The aforementioned Whitesnake one is quite good IMO.

Re: Soldier Of Fortune Live
The acoustic SIT Whitesnake version is the only live version I know of where the entire song is played. Every other DP, Whitesnake or Blackmore's Night version I've heard ommits the second verse.

Re: Soldier Of Fortune Live
thanks. I think you are right, the Starkers version is the only full version.
Shame cos I think it is a fantastic song.

Re: Soldier Of Fortune Live
Starkers in Tokyo features a good version, but quasi a capella. ).Here it is .
I'd still go for the MkIV version live in Tokyo (even though it is shortened

Bizarrely,I have a March 95 bootleg, "Something Special With Deep Purple" which is a concert in Seoul and Jon Lord did a 1:40 second piano version of Soldier Of Fortune......

It fair brought a tear to my eye Mr W. Excellent performance and, of course, you got to perform with the fragrant Kasia Laska, although she may have been put off by your dress sense!
Jon seemed to be enjoying himself judging by the You Tube footage!
