I didn't like that very much at all. emoticon

Even allowing for the inadequacies of the recording it's 3 minutes of "noise" and (as was common in the early reunion era) Lazy is played far too fast, losing any of the subtlety it had.

It probably sounded good if you were there but Richie just seems to rehash those little triplet runs.

They should have dropped the potpourri of 1970s tunes from the end of the set. All the tracks were just run-throughs.

Re: Lazy 1987

Its a pity they started to play Lazy that way in the 80s. To make the main riff sound ok in that tempo the actual notes and phrasing are changed quite a lot from the original. In he 70s the riff was a bit more sophisticated, I think. And even if they have slowed the tune down again now, they still play the riff the 80s way. Sounds sloppier and very different... emoticon

Anyone else noticed or thought about this?

It was yet a pity Blackmore used to interpolate the "Lazy" riff in the intro of Rainbow songs. I like "Lazy", but it is a jazzy tune which doesn't really fit heavy rock numbers...

Re: Lazy 1987

From when he started playing the Lazy intro in Rainbow right through the reunion it was always played too fast and almost became a Heavy Metal parody of itself. The 70s MkII versions are superb especially the MIJ version. The only MKIII versions I have heard were part of JL solos, so it hasn't been to my taste since the early MKII versions. They also speeded up SOTW too much for my taste. I love the slow, almost plodding MIJ version. It is a lot darker and heavier than the later versions which seem light and airy in comparison.

Speaking of Lazy, I was listening to Malmsteen's "Marching Out" album released in 85, and one of the songs uses music very similar to Lazy, but then it changes up a bit at the end. But the similarities are there. Now that was a heavy metal lazy.
