The Fire Dance Rages On

Most DP family nerds are aware of the similiarities between the main riff in The Battle Rages On and the break in Fire Dance.

But I can't stop wondering why Mr Glover didn't say to Mr Blackmore: "Hey, this one's been used before!".

Maybe he was afraid of being fired ...

Every long running artist or band recycles their own stuff. As songs those two don't sound alike (just as an opinion, BRO is better IMO), which I think justifies the re-usage of the riff.

Like I've said before, RB's riffs are usually so good that when he does recycle them they're easy to spot!

Aye, the riff for "Burn" was really worth reusing on the "Long Live Rock 'n Roll" album. emoticon

Glover does it a lot too, for instance the bass break in Under The Gun, during the part where "Land Of Hope And Glory" was used... one primary example would be during the part after the lead in Cascades~I'm Not Your Lover.

Indeed, he would have had to say it so many times before: "Burn", "Black Night", "Child in Time", even "Smoke on the Water" if my recollection is correct...

It seems all the good songs have already been composed. From now on (or from then on ...) it's all about new variations, incarnations and duplications.

Re: The Fire Dance Rages On

Hmmm...after thinking about it and giving the tracks I'm about to cite a listen, I've come to believe that the riff from "Burn" morphed - albeit slowed down a notch or two & played 'semi-sideways' - into an untitled studio jam/instrumental played with Rainbow (circa 1980 - 84) that later developed into "Knocking At Your Back Door" with DP in 1984.
Or maybe I'm just crazy. emoticon

I remember talking about "recycled" riffs here some time ago.
And I know it's not the exact same notes or anything, but if you take "Burn' and slow it down enough, it sure sounds a lot like "Man On "The Silver Mountain" with a slightly bigger sound to my ears.

It's not Ritchie, and might be Steve Morse's idea of what a fotre riff of DP's should be to build on, to him... "Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming" and "Clearly Quite Absurd" are "Knocking At Your Back Door" hacked up and done Steve's way, if you ask me.
