It doesn't get more obvious than that one, but I think it was clever to use the riff from one song, as a strong ruythym for another sumc better song... I like what he did there with that one.

Like I've said before, RB's riffs are usually so good that when he does recycle them they're easy to spot!
Aye the riff for LA Connection was really worth reusing on TBRO album!!!
Agreed. It's one of the best variations of that traditional rock riff.

I remember talking about "recycled" riffs here some time ago.
And I know it's not the exact same notes or anything, but if you take "Burn' and slow it down enough, it sure sounds a lot like "Man On "The Silver Mountain" with a slightly bigger sound to my ears.
Agreed 100%. If you take the burn riff, changes the notes, the rhythm and the way the strings are stroken, it is "MOTSM". Well, it's also Grease.

Whitesnake's Fool for Your Loving and Walking in the Shadow of the Blues are based on the same idea as SOTW, Burn, MOTSM, LLRR... Yet Marsden had the balls to put down RB as a musician!

Re: The Fire Dance Rages On
Spotlight Kid and KAYBD are clearly quite similar as well. Variations of the Standard Blackmore Riff.

Re: The Fire Dance Rages On
Yeah. The tracks I listed above are all in the same key (G minor), which adds up to the kind of similar feel, whilst your examples, Jo Bro, are in different keys.
But it is another example how RB's riffs are easy to recognize. Just think of, say, Angus Young, and how his riffs are very similar to each other (understatement). Yet, while AC/DC intros are among the most recognizable in the world, who'd bother to point out they're so similar?
Btw, am I the only one who believes Mark Knopfler was 'inspired' by Rainbow's Can't Let You Go opening guitar riff when he released Money for Nothing roughly a year after Bent Out of Shape came out?

Most DP family nerds are aware of the similiarities between the main riff in The Battle Rages On and the break in Fire Dance.
But I can't stop wondering why Mr Glover didn't say to Mr Blackmore: "Hey, this one's been used before!".
Maybe he was afraid of being fired ...
I don't think he cared...
After all, there are only 12 tones to use. Sooner or later you might end up with something that reminds you of something else. Other times you simply use the exact phrase, but in another context. (like with Fire Dance/ TBRO)
I think it's a good riff, and deserves a song!

What did Marsden say about ritchie then?
--- Blackmore on Beck: Jeff Beck's great to listen to. I don't put myself on Jeff Beck's level, but I can relate to him when he says he'd rather be working on his car collection than playing the guitar.
