Hush '88 - How well known?
I just read an article in the local newspaper about certain artits making new versions of their old hits for a somewhat dodgy record label here in Finland.
The article had a side feature called "Known Remakes" which was based on the same idea: an artist recording and releasing a new version of his or her old song. The list naturally included the Whitesnake remakes of FFYL and HIGA as they were big hits, plus some other stuff like Ozzy's first solo album, the recent Kiss remakes album and Bon Jovi's album of acoustic versions of their old hits.
Interestingly, the list included DP and Hush, accompanied by the following text: "The hit single by Deep Purple's original line-up was remade by the most famous line-up in 1988".
I just started to think about it. Was and/or is Hush '88 a known remake? Yes, one can say the same about some other titles on the list, but still... I do known the guy who wrote the article and that he knows Hush '88 doesn't surprise me at all, but somehow its inclusion on a short list does, at least to some extent.
I personally liked the version and played it to my mates who looked down on any old stuff, especially thirty years old stuff. I think the song got a mixed reception, but the point is just how many bought the album, single, or in general, heard and thus were or indeed are aware of such a remake of Hush?

Yes, with as b side a live version of Dead or Alive, witch has since then also been released on the extended version of Nobody's Perfect.
