I don't think Wasted Sunsets is in the same class as WABMC or SOF, but I do think Don't Make Me Happy is a close contender.

Two very good tracks and very hard to pick a clear winner here. Although I think that WABMC is fantastic, SOF just wins this one for me!
Coverdale's voice is in outstanding form on this track. You can almost feel the passion in the vocals.
WABMC is a great track, but I think that Coverdale's style suits slower numbers better than Gillan's.

I prefer Soldier of Fortune for a few reasons.

1. I was 15 or so when it came out - lots of nice slow dancing to that song. Wish it was longer. <g>

2. I never heard WABMC until just a few years ago. It is very good - but it can't top the memories of SOF.

3. I would love to hear Gillan sing SOF - but he refuses to do any Purple songs he didn't write (except Hush). He didn't used to be so picky (think Mandrake Root).

4. I have a partial .mp3 of JLT singing SOF. The tune is awesome! I wish I had a copy of the whole thing. I have no idea where it was recorded either. It is a gorgeous version of the song - but is missing huge pieces.

Just my $.02.

WABMC just slightly over SOF. The vocalist is better or at least HE WAS. emoticon

Seems as good a place as any to ask this bit of trivia regarding Soldier of Fortune: David Coverdale allegedly came into DP with the lyrics to this song - for all intents & purposes - already written...how old was he when he wrote the lyrics and what was the song's alleged original title?
