Who loves Hallelujah?
I recently discovered Hallelujah after buying the “Singles A‘s & B‘s” disc. What a find, I just love this song. I can’t believe it didn’t do anything on the charts. It also got me thinking that when Gillan and Glover first joined, the band still seems to be thinking along the lines of groovy 60’s style music, rather than 70’s hard rock.
Even though it’s not hard rock, it would have been great to have this song on the anniversary addition of “Deep Purple In Rock”. I would take it over Jam Stew (I’m Alone in progress) any day.

Re: Who loves Hallelujah?
Great song, though it´s bascially Gillan trying to sound like Evans(like on his version of Bird Has Flown) he still delivers a great peformance, Blackmore does a great solo, it´s great overall!

Re: Who loves Hallelujah?
If find "Hallelujah" similar to Czesław Niemen's (Polish legendary vocalist) song called "Dziwny jest ten swiat (Strange is this world)".

Re: Who loves Hallelujah?
Fantastic number. It may carry the MK1 stamp on it, but Gillan does let out a couple of fantastic screams midway through, allowing you a sneaky glimpse at what was to follow.
Blackmore's solo is heavenly. Nice harmony too.
The singles As and Bs collection really does show the contrast between this track, and the In Rock sound, because immediately after Hallelujah, is Speed King.
The difference is gigantic, the space between recordings so little.

Re: Who loves Hallelujah?
Wait a second, did someone say Gillan did a cover of Bird had Flown? If so, where do I get my copy?

Re: Who loves Hallelujah?
I like the song "Hallelujah" and love the historical signifigance of it. It's from the very first session with the two new guys that Purple had just 'hijacked' from Episode Six...the singer had the job, but the bass player - who was kidded for years about the attire he showed up in - just went along to play the session and so impressed the others with his abilities, was immediately offered the job as bass player on a 'full time' basis wasn't too sure about the future of Deep Purple and asked for a day or two to think over the offer...after waking up Jon Lord a bit earlier than Lord would've preferred to have been woken, the bassist - unbeknownst to said bassist - was put on a 3 month 'probationary' period...I hear tell that everything worked out pretty well for the group, all things considered.
One helluva first session, if I say so myself...and, well, I just did.
