I think the whole point is to know whether one can jump directly from MH to PS.
My answer is: if you do that, don't pretend you know who they really think they are.

Well, I love both versions of Lazy. As a fan who stopped buying DP albums after HOBL, and also I haven't seen the band live since 199?, how many songs have you ever heard the band play from WDWTWA in a live setting? When I saw them in Liverpool in Feb.1973, they played Mary Long and that was it. The rest of the set was the MIJ set. What I mean by that is that you could hardly say that the band was touring to support an album that they all loved! For me, DP was a high energy, very loud, hard rock band, and that doesn't come across on this album very much. Or does it? Perhaps I better go play it again.

Blackmore on Beck: Jeff Beck's great to listen to. I don't put myself on Jeff Beck's level, but I can relate to him when he says he'd rather be working on his car collection than playing the guitar.

Well, the Beatles played nothing from their "latest" album [Revolver] during the 1966 tour. Perhaps a little lazy on both bands part; besides Deep Purple were in need of counseling.
Sometimes an artist isn't the best judge of their own work. As we know with Purple members putting down their own albums in the press.
I think Smooth Dancer, Rat Bat Blue, Place In Line and of course Woman From Tokyo, would have been great in concert. A friend saw them live in Wisconsin back in '73, and heard them go into Rat Bat Blue during the ST jam.

It's probably the least essential of the Mark 2 albums but, having said that, there are many fine things about WDWTWA...'Woman From Tokyo', 'Rat Bat Blue', 'Smooth Dancer' for starters. It is sad how disinterested Blackmore is but Paicey attempts to make amends with some quite brilliant drumming.
On first hearing it in the mid-70's I was a little disappointed with it but it's grown on me over the years and I now play it quite regularly. You must own this album.

I agree with that - I would far rather hear those 4 WDWTWA tracks than a 25 minute Space Truckin' work out, that's for sure.
Re. Revolver - well, the band had already decided to quit gigging altogether, and the rather more experimental nature of much of that album's music would have been difficult to replicate live in 'those days', don't you think! Anyway, what the heck, most of the music was drowned out by screaming kids on that last 1966 tour, apparently. At the final gig at Candlestick Park, Lennon and Macca spent much of the time between songs just taking photos of the on-stage goings on!
Did anyone else UK based catch that Timewatch Beatlemania TV programme last Friday?

Woman From Tokyo and Mary Long are the only two that have made regular appearances in the set list.
Rat Bat Blue was played once in its entirety (by MkVII). RB has played around with the riff live from time to time.

It didn't come out until August 5th of 66,Candlestick was on the 29th,so they probably just trotted out what they had been touring with all year.Basically the Rubber Soul lp.

I can't remember exactly which discussion board I frequent (there are 4 or 5) that I saw it on, but the discussion about this album included the observation regarding the way that Woman From Tokyo was misspelled on the album jacket's track listing as Woman From Tokayo, like Gillan sang it, while on the album's inner label it was spelled correctly. I went & checked my 35 year old copy of the lp and shur 'nuff - there it was!
