Re: Sonic Quality of Original DP Vinyl's
It's all well and good praising vinyl but what about the scratches and clicks and jumps? Much of my old vinyl drives me mad. It's probably got a lot to do with poor quality vinyl, poor storage and poor hi-fi but isn't that the lot of the common man?

I'm so glad I wasn't born in the age of vinyl, I'm sure they'd drive me mad...

Re: Sonic Quality of Original DP Vinyl's
I like them more than CD's. With the scratches.
Oldfashioned? Yes!

mmm .... well remember the bus journey home with a new album, reading everyword on the cover, over and over all the way home.
Scratches were the only real downside, had quiet a few favourites with the odd skip, actually missed them when i replaced them with CD's

Sonically, that's preferring a Lada 1500 S(port) to a Lamborghini Diablo, but each to his/her own.

Re: Sonic Quality of Original DP Vinyl's
Its interesting of course that everybody listens to this music in different way, and therefore has different expectations sonically.
A nice idea would be would be to hire a venue, hire in the best possible sound, and listen to all of MK2's classic LP's with still images of the band being projected.
Can't help thinking that this might be be more fun than buying another ticket for Mk10 or whatever it is now

Re: Sonic Quality of Original DP Vinyl's
I think Ian Gillan said that all the talk about the superior sound of vinyl was a myth because it was all down to the way albums were recorded back in the old days and little to do with vinyl itself. I'm very far from an expert so I can't say if he's right but it's an interesting point.

No.
You may say that but since the 70s I've had to live a life, pay bills and worry about things other than storing my vinyl and having a top of the range hi-fi. Some of us are mere mortals.
Also, It's worth noting that a lot of vinyl in the 80s was utter rubbish. You could hold an album at the edges and it would bend in the middle. You could guarantee it would jump within months.
Generally, 'audiophiles' are a bunch of anally retentive snobs who forget that rock music is for 'rocking' rather than chin scratching.

Agree with both those statements, but i was was those first 6 Mk2/3 pieces of Vinyl that layed the foundation for us, (i'm talking Inrock/Fireball/MH/MIJ/WDWTWA/BURN), and those pieces of Vinyl did sound different from each other sonically, and it isn't just technology coz IN ROCK appears to have the edge over Fireball and MH.
In my opinion
