The battle rages on
Whatever happened to this one on US radio, did any of the songs get any airplay?
This album is like a ghost in America, could barley be seen, like it never happened.
I've started to listening to this one again and it sounds better than ever, never liked it much when it was released.
It kinda sounds timeless somewhat.

Re: The battle rages on
The playing and songs are very good. They sound very live and loose. I think it could have been a much better CD if TheSqueelyOne were on it, or anyone but Gillian for that matter.

Re: The battle rages on
I heard "The battle rages on" and "Anya" played several times on radio in classic rock programmes.

The last DP album that I heard get airplay in my part of the U. S. was S&M (King of Dreams).

Re: The battle rages on
Here in Detroit we had 3 rock stations at that time. Each station played TBRO every 2 hours or so. I could switch stations and hear it almost every hour. It got a lot of airplay. But canceled tours in the US and no follow up single eventually killed it off.

Re: The battle rages on
I heard the title track once on the radio here in Kansas City, right when the album came out. The DJ said something like, "These guys are ANCIENT", then played it. I agree that canceling the US tour effectively killed the album here.

Re: The battle rages on
There are some great songs on that album, and they worked very well on stage, but I'm not to found of the production.
Anyway, IMO the album needed a little more work. Sounds a little rushed, and I guess it was since Gillan came back when a lot of it was written/ done. They had to get it out before going out on the last MKII tour.

Re: The battle rages on
I think both Purpendicular and Abandon got at least some airplay in the states... but I've never heard anything about this one, until now thanks to you guys.
Why, since it was THE legendary mk II, tour or no tour.

Re: The battle rages on
A main stream rock station in Philadelphia, either 93.3 or 94 YSP played "Whatsername" from Abandon back when it was released. It didn't fit in with the rest of the harder stuff that they were playing at the time, and it was the first time my friends in the car had ever heard a DP tune. They didn't much like DP after that, and I didn't have a DP tape with me at the time to play something else for them to hear.
