Bananas!

I was listening to Bananas yesterday for the first time in over a year I think. My God, it´s good! It´s even better, it´s great!
If ROTD sounds "like a DP album" (and I like that too), Bananas is a great record, period.

I´m not gonna rate it against other albums, but it´s one of my favourites!

How about you?

Bananas is a good(not great for me) album I enjoyed it too havent listened to it for while now though. The only thing I will say is i didnt think the Bananas tour was very good i felt that the band were going through the motions a bit and that this tour started the downward spiral for MK Morse the loss of JL didnt help either of course.

Re: Bananas!

Bananas has got some good songs, and a few not so good. Just like Rapture I guess, but both albums suffer under the fact that they are produced by someone who's got to be the worst hard rock producer ever.

All in all, Bananas and Rapture shows a band moving on. For some that's a good thing, for some it's not. For me? Well, when Bananas was released I hoped that they would move more towards "classic hard rock", and with Rapture they, for the most part, did.

Good albums both. Not great, but good. Live, on the other hand, the new songs work very well, and blend in with the old classics. IMO the new songs comes to life when played live, and they go from "good" to "great"!

KB, it's funny that you write both ROTD and Bananas suffer under the fact that they are produced by someone who's got to be the worst hard rock producer ever, and yet, you say they're both good albums. He can't be that bad can he?

Of course one could believe they could have been "great" albums with another producer, but who knows for sure.

The fact is, these are really good albums, and perhaps Bradford does bring out the best in this DP. At this point, I wouldn't mind if he produced the next album.

Bananas is still an enjoyable listen to these ears. Nothing definitive for the band or jaw dropping, but enjoyable from time to time.

I don't really go back to it nowdays, but when I do, it's to the same songs that stood out in the first place (Doing It Tonight, Razzle Dazzle, I Got Your Number).

The album was a pleasant surprise at the time and overall, it's a good album.

The songs are good, not the productionwork! That means that the albums are made up of good songs (and makes two good albums), but the production work is far from good. Do you get my point now? emoticon

If there had been another producer, someone of Martin Birch's caliber, the albums would, IMO, have sounded much better. If you listen to MB's productions from the seventies (like Machine Head, WDWTWA and Burn) you can hear the difference in quality. He made GREAT productions with 70's equipment. Bradford can't even make a fairly good production with the equipment of today.

Re: Bananas!

You may have a point there Killer Bananas.

I have a friend who like me is a musician, but also a sound engineer in studio and live. He often talk about the sonic (is that correct english?), the sound of an album. "That album is is poorly produced" or "What a terrible mix, they have no room sound" etc. He´s thinking in terms of the electronic signal, what have they done from the microphoneing to the final mixdown?

But me, I´m listening to the performance, the guitar sound or the sound of the cymbal itself. "Is that really a Paiste 2002? Sounds good." You know. And that´s a complete different thing I´ve learned.

Growing up listening to cassette copies of vinyl records I don´t bother to much about "the sound", more about the sound. (Can we take this in swedish, anyone? emoticon )

So I know I like the Martin Birch records (Purple, Maiden) but I don´t know why.

Does this make any sence to you?

To me Bradford has brought back the happiness (Bananas (to me they sound like having a good time)) and the signature sound (ROTD (lots of hammond and an "raw" rock sound)).
So maybe they need another engineer, a soundguy (and a sound guy... thank you.... thank you...), a bit more time, and keep Bradford as the producer.

Re: Bananas!

Bananas is a great album. Although there were at least one batch of faulty discs where the signal clips and the sound is dull.

This was the first DP album since the 80s that I've seen properly exposed in stores.
(Although it didn't seem to help much)
