I rate it as the most overrated DP album. Not that it is bad, but that it doesn't deserve all the acclaim it gets IMO. Song by song:
Burn - One of DP's best songs ever
MJTYL - Don't care for it one bit
Lay Down, Stay Down - ho-hum
Sail Away - A beautiful DP song.
You Fool No One - Underrated and excellent
What's Going on Here - terrible, absolutely terrible
Mistreated - Great song. Better live, but still great
A 200 - throwaway filler
So it's 4 winners and 4 losers. The title track is a MAJOR winner though.

I bought the remaster a few weeks ago, and it has become my favorite pre-breakup studio album. The harmonies that David and Glenn made are far better than harmonies that Gillan makes with himself. It is interesting in that there are many stylistic elements in Burn that make it sound like a prototype to Rainbow.
As for the songs:
Burn: ***** out of *****
MJTYL: Not particularly a standout, but pretty good.
Lay Down, Stay Down: This one sounds like Elf. Still a good song, but a notch down from MJTYL.
Sail Away: The other ***** out of ***** song
You Fool No One: The way the vocals work, it sounds like a lost Cream track. Still pretty darn good.
What's Going On Here: A good bluesy track. Jon uses the piano instead of organ. It wouldn't have been out of place on TBRO or Bananas.
Mistreated: ********** out of *****
"A" 200: Should have ended the album with Mistreated. Coronarias Redig is a much better song.

It's a perfect name for a great album. From the opening riff the song burns. Paicey is at his best and the interaction between DC and GH is intense. Great solos from JL and RB in classic DP style. The rest of the lp is killer as well. MJTYL has a great bluesy feel and more great classic DP moves like taking the key up a notch when GH sings his part. LDSD has a fantastic guitar solo and comes across excellent live. Sail Away ha a great, moody guitar solo to go along with DC's deep voice and another great guitar solo on top of some over the top drumming by Paice make for another classic DP # in YFNO. I always love the tongue in cheekyness of Can't Stay Here and some great flowing soloing from RB. I wif=sh JL had used more Hammond and made the tune heavier, but it seemed to all be in fun anyway and it's a fun tune. RB and DC create a great atmosphere in Mistreated with RB throwing in some really good runs underneath DC's vocal. Who else could have built a whole 7 minute tune around a single pre-bent note and made it sound so powerful, yet moody. I love the Rainbow version with RJD a bit better than subsequent DP live versions, but it's because they pep it up a bit while DP, played it down to a bluesier level than RBR. In the end we get great live versions of it in different modes.
A200 is useless except for RB's little run to the finish near the end, which also happened to be some of his wildest soloing for some time to come. I think he must have heard it in the studio and started to get bored with it and decided to, in the words of Vyvvian from the Young Ones, "pep it up a bit".

A200 is a gem. RB's solo is one of his best ever. They should have tried this as the instrumental showcase in the live set and thrown away that awfully dated Space Truckin'.

I never cared for it that much before but now I listen to it quite frequently.
Burn is one of the top songs DP ever wrote. I think in some of the polls here it usually finishes in the top 4. If it comes up against Child In Time in the semi-finals in gets knocked out. But it could also make the finals. It is an awesome song that was awesome live. I loved it when Ritchie brought it back to the setlist when JLT was the singer. Doogie does it justice in Rainbow too.
I love the album. Hard to put a number on it though. Suffice it to say it was an excellent addition tot he DP catalog.

Is it just me - or maybe this latest batch of loco-weed - or does the instrumentation to "Might Just Take Your Life" sound just like (not exactly, though) the instrumentation to "Woman From Tokyo", only backwards? 
Anyway, "Burn" is certainly one of Deep Purple's finest studio albums, in this listener's non-humble opinion. The at-that-time-new-for-Deep Purple dual vocals aspect took some getting used to, but the instrumental aspects of the album were up to the superior standards set by MkII.
