Back to some quotes... I'll even take some more of your ficticious ones over this off topic stuff, you win, but just remember, I'm not playing in the first place, so there is no loss.

Both RB quotes (lobotomy and Oliver Rude) have been printed in old issues of MBTP. I don't remember if they were first printed somewhere else. If I'll bump into them, I'll tell you the exact issues.

Cheers.

...so let's get back to "If we're going to quote Blackmore..." & seeing as one of the last sub-topics dealt with a certain quote, I find it fitting that the attempt to get back 'on topic' will begin with one of the quotes in question and a source:

"I used to call him [Ian Gillan] 'Oliver Rude' because he's [Ian Gillan] very similar to Oliver Reed. He's [Ian Gillan] a very brash individual." - Ritchie Blackmore to Pete Makowski in Mojo magazine, December 2004.

Thanks for the source of the second and least concerning insulting one, Ed.

It must have been quoted in Jerry's mag as well... Pete is another practical joker, and was always perfect for interviewing him.

You're getting these online somewhere?
Just Google and ye shall find many a Kerrang interview.

Btw, it was defintely tongue and cheek, but I'd hate to see him be serious. emoticon

 You're welcome.

I guess the degree of 'insult' in any quote is up to each reader of a quote's perceptions/interpretations/whatevers - and that's fair enough.

 Some of them, yes.

I just learned how to correctly 'copy 'n paste' not so long ago...I haven't gotten to the chapter on how to properly & most efficiently utilize a search engine in my "Idiot's Guide to Using A Computer & The Internet" yet. emoticon
Seriously, I often just use the Forum 'search' facility and go back through the old thread/topics that contain such (in this case, published quotes) items.

...and some 'oldies but still goodies' from the 'Blackmore Quote Archive' emoticon :

"We'll be changing our stage act completely soon. A lot of people have seen it now, especially reporters."

"People will have a go at you whatever you do. I remember Jimmy Page saying once that an American writer thought Led Zeppelin 'were a terrible band because Jimmy Page wears snake skin boots.'"

""I used to idolise Les Paul and Wes Montgomery. But it's more of a challenge for me to play rock than jazz, and control a 200 watt amplifier. Sure rock is harder to play than jazz. You see rock is so limited. In jazz you can play anything. I don't think there is a single guitarist who has MASTERED rock guitar playing.

"You could say Segovia has mastered classical music, but nobody has yet mastered rock and roll. I like Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Beck as guitarists, but they are not brilliant. They just play gutsy, screaming music."

"I'm not being big-headed, but if I wanted to be a straight guitarist – I could. Those days are over. Albert Lee is brilliant – but he's not exciting. Big Jim Sullivan, to my mind, is the best in the country and earns thousands, but he is unknown to the public, as he is a session player.
A few years ago it got to the point where I didn't want to play anymore, to not just play the guitar in a corner. I wanted to ACT and play the guitar. When I was a kid, my whole thing was to be the fastest guitar anywhere.
I'm 25 now and I got my first guitar when I was about II years old. At first I wanted to be a jazz player, and my big influence then was Django Reinhardt. It's funny, I hear the latest thing among guitarists now is speed. But I don't want to know about that now."

""There are a lot of things that can build you up or bring you down in this business," said Ritchie. "You read in the 'papers one day – 'Great Group.' Next day, it's 'Silly group'." - all above are Ritchie Blackmore to Chris Welch in Melody Maker, September 26th, 1970
