Machine Head on Uncut's 'Bargain Box' List!

Uncut's latest issue comes with the "Book of Revelations: A Second Compendium of the Finest Rock Facts" mini mag. As the title implies, it is a humorous collection of rock "facts" (some are facts, some are 'facts'), and basically the issue consists of lists of various rock related subjects.

One of the lists is "Rock Albums That Always Turn Up in the The 50p Box".

One of the 12 albums on the list is Machine Head, of which they say "The one with 'Smoke on the Water' on it made No1, and sold roughly a kazillion copies."

Elsewhere, more humour is applied. Of Peter Frampton's Comes Alive album they say: "Under the 1989 Vinyl Act (Amended), second-hand record shops are required to offer at least two copies of this in their 'bargain rock and pop' section at all times."

Men at Work's Cargo: "The cartoon sleeve calls to mind some hens'-teeth-rare '60s psychedelic gem. The contents, sadly, are all-too-common '80s Aussie rock."

And finally an album that's been discussed a lot on the forum, thanks (initially) to Rahul's raving. Wishbone Ash's Argus: "Lo it is written: wherever records gather dust in a corner, ye shall find this."

Argus is a masterpiece. It doesn't gather the dust, it attracts it and makes it gold.

That would be what the record stores wish, too! emoticon

I certainly didn't take the comment as a dig at the quality of the music. As you know, there indeed are albums you always seem to see in bargain bins.
