Is this Rolling Stone review of Gillan's voice spot on?
As lead singer for both Deep Purple and late-period Black Sabbath, Ian Gillan stands tall among Metal vocalists, with only Robert Plant and Ozzy Osbourne as true rivals/colleagues. He has always been something of a cross between the two, with a voice that's more refined and masculine than Robert Plant's grave-robbing blues squeal and capable of operatic heights. Yet Gillan's voice inhabits the outer fringes of Ozzy territory -- conflicted, beefy and evil. His solo records have traditionally covered the same ground as Deep Purple, with a couple of poorly received transgressions into Jazz Rock.

There might be a couple more I'd put in there as 'rivals/colleagues' - the late David Byron + John Lawton (both ironically enough lead vocalists of Uriah Heep)...Jon Oliva of Savatage was close to Gillan's league but not quite there...I can maybe toss Paul D'Anno's, Rob Halford's + Bruce ****inson's names in there...the only real argument I'd have with that particular review is that anyone should display the audacity to mention Ozzy Osbourne's name in the same breath/sentence as Ian Gillan's when it comes to singing/vocalizations  Then again, it is a review from Rolling Stone

Haha, Ozzy doesn't belong in the same room as Plant or Gillan. (Or ****inson, Di'Anno, Halford, Bryon, Dio, Coverdale, Hughes or Lawton)

If Plant is a Metal singer, I'm the King of England...
The only thing Ozzy, Gillan and Plant has in common is being the vocalists of the "British Hard Rock Holy Trinity". But each of them had a different style, so I think the comparison makes little sense.
