Favorite Still I'm Sad Version
Make your pick. To me, the On Stage version is tops. The Stranger in Us All version is great, but I miss the quieter hums before belting out "Still I'm Sad". The SIUA version sounds a little rushed when getting to the chorus I guess.

Re: Favorite Still I'm Sad Version
I missed the Boney M version there. Oddly enough, a pretty cool version of that song too.

Re: Favorite Still I'm Sad Version
The instrumental version on the first Rainbow record is my favourite. Another great cover of the tune was done by Axel Rudi Pell (Johnny Gioelli on the vocals, absolutely fantastic singer) and is very frantic in pace finishing very effectively with the same way Rainbow ended the song live (the staccato climax).

Re: Favorite Still I'm Sad Version
Studio-wise it has to be the original Yardbirds version. Simply brilliant.
I don´t like the offical live versions done by Rainbow because they´re both quite cut. The Live In Germany version lacks the orchestra tape part of the drum solo and the the On Stage version omits the entire drum solo. Both miss out the beginning solos and I belive that the guitar and keyboard solos during the actual songs are also shortened down.
But if I had to take a bootleg version, I´d take the 30 minute version on Starstruck Live In Japan 1978.

Re: Favorite Still I'm Sad Version
I haven't heard a version I don't like.
This song also inspired Ritchie
to come up with one of his cooler
riff's of all time, can anyone guess?

The Rockpalast Munich '77 version is awsome IMHO. I like Davids Keyboardsolo very much. He's very underrated I guess.

Yes on the Osaka gig everything was a bit longer due to Ritchie´s extensive solos. Usually Still I´m Sad had a duration time of 20-25 minutes. This evening Still I´m Sad had over 30 minutes, Catch The Rainbow 22 minutes and Man On The Silver Mountain 17 minutes.
If you ever heard the full version of Still I´m Sad(at least 20 minutes long), you´ll find the versions on Live In Germany and On Stage pretty boring, as you see how cut they are.

Re: Favorite Still I'm Sad Version
I like the On Stage version the best followed by the Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow 1975 version. The instrumental actually sounded happier. The Doogie White version just didn't do anything for me other than RB was running out.

My personal favourite is the SIUA version. May be just me.
