Not Bad. Purple at #37, and i'll bet this doesn't include their first 3 albums. It don't matter. Musically the best band of all time (IMHO). Blackmore/Lord: The most powerful guitar/keyboard combination of all time!!

These stats are not aqurate, some artists are overestimated and some are underestimated whith more than 10 mil units. I know this for a fact... interesting anyway.

I find some of those figures hard to believe; if you take out singles sales- and the only reliable sales figure you can do that with is Led Zep (due to their no single release policy) - that equates to them selling around 30 million copies on average for each album! emoticon

... at getting a certain part of the female anatomy bared at their shows.

I can agree with that not-so-startling fact!

What was that singer-guy's wife's name again?

I would never of thought that Zeppelin sold more than the Stones..

Now if you add WS, Rainbow and Gillan sales I bet DP would be over 200 mill emoticon

According to RIAA, Purple is not top 200 selling artist in US.

Last place in the list belongs to 3 doors down with 10.5 million in album sales.

Purple must have sold more albums there than that.

I read somewhere that the RIAA only updates Artists record sales if their managers request an audit. I'll bet Purples old managers havn't requested one in a long time.
In 1976, Circus Magazine had an article that stated Purple sold in excess of 36 million albums from 1970-1973, and that when they broke up in 1976, they were, at that time, the all time biggest album sellers on the Warner Brothers record lable (this was their American lable in the 1970's). The RIAA doesn't even list Shades, Hush, TBOT as going gold but they did. Also, in an old issue of the DPAS magazine, they write that Purple had sold well in excess of 85 million albums by late 1970's.

The RIAA figures IIRC only take US sales post-1979(ish.)
Deep Purple sold 14 million units in 1973 alone , so the 36 M figure may have some validity
