posticon Deep Purple on National Television Here In The States!

Okay, it was only a commercial for the new Lincoln SUV's - the "Navigator", I think is the name of the particular vehicle - but finally! an automobile manufacturer (or someone at the advertizing firm who had the account) realized that the best rock song to try & sell a car with is of course, "Highway Star".
Geez, that's twice within the last couple of months that "Highway Star" was heard on national television here in the States...I sense a conspiacy! emoticon Of course, it's the type of conspiracy that gets 100% of my support. emoticon

I was flipping through some channels about a month ago and stopped on one of those newer NBC shows because they were playing Highway Star. The scene lasted about a minute and they played the song the whole time. (Not sure if this was the other time you were referring to.)

You're correct, Joe. The other time was during an episode of the comedy series "My Name Is Earl". Your pathetic correspondent (me...aka 'Lifeless Saddo Bastard') reported that occurance, too.

I saw the Lincoln commercial lastnight. I was very impressed but was that the Machinehead version of highway star? The intro sounded a little different.

I couldn't help but notice that on the front page of "The Highway Star" they've put the gist of this topic at the top of the "Latest News" column, dated May 12th.
Just call mne "Scoop"...and yes, Ive already broken out and taken to wearing one of my old fedora hats with a card that says "Press" in the hat band! emoticon/emoticon

I'm not sure of it ever came up before, but "Highway Star" was also used in a very early episode of "That '70s Show" - from the first season, I believe. I just happened to catch it as I was going through some channels last night and happened to stop at a re-run of the show...I only mention about this 'coming up before' because I seem to remember a discussion about how no '70s era DP music seemed to make it into the show's 'soundtrack' (so to say)...so, just in case anyone was still wondering - yes, DP did get at least one 'nod' from "That '70s Show" ! emoticon
