Coverdale Vocals
I haven't seen him live recently but understand the vocals on the recent dvd and live CD may have been 'brushed up' in the studio.....anyone compared recent bootlegs to these official recordings?
Cheers

Re: Coverdale Vocals
The DVD Live in the Still of the Night was mastered by (I think) John X.
The CDs Live in the Shadow of the Blues is much more raw.
If you get both, you can compare, and then you will be able to judge for yourself.
I will say this: Live in the Still of the Night sounds great, they did a good job in the mastering of the that live offering.

Re: Coverdale Vocals
It's difficult to say which parts of the Live-Cd were done in the studio (except of some bass parts which were done to replace Marco Mendoza's original playing). The songs were recorded between 2003 and 2006, so you have more than 200 shows were the songs could have come from. Shows with Coverdale in good form and shows were his voice was rather bad. But there are surely parts done afterwards, things I've never heard on a boot from this time.
Coverdale definitely had too much time to play with his new toy (Protools) on his computer before he was able to get a deal for this live album...
Simply consider these two products as an offer how a good Whitesnake show in these years could have been and not as a genuine document of how one show really was ;-)

Re: Coverdale Vocals
I love the line up, when they are on, they are really awesome... and I hope the new drummer, who's name escapses because I never heard of him in the first place, doesn't ruin the great live chemistry.

cant say that im a huge fan of Tommy Aldridge in Whitesnake
he is a great power/metal drummer which suits the 87 onwards material but he lacks a bit of finesse and feel when it comes to the more laid back bluesy Whitesnake material eg aint no love in the heart of the city etc I think he was a better fit in Ozzys band. The last time i saw TA perform was with Thin Lizzy when they supported Purple last year and I felt he was a bit overpowering

Re: Coverdale Vocals
I consider him more of a shouthern bluesy powerhouse.
Lets not forget where he started in BOA, and when he first joined WS, what style of band they had been before that, which was similar.
It wasn't till he got with OZZY that he introduced a more metal element, but I agree that he utilized that in WS during the hair days.

But then Gillans micstand TA didnt join Whitesnake until the hairband days by which time he had already been with Ozzy!Dont get me wrong i think TA is a great drummer but not the right drummer for Whitesnakes older bluesier material he just doesnt have the feel to do it justice but he was great on the power songs like SOTN etc I havent heard anything by Chris Frazier that I know of yet so I cant really comment on him but from what I have read he is more in the Paicey mould which can only be good cant it?

Re: Coverdale Vocals
The only thing I have with Chris Frazier (I think) is Passion and Warfare. (He may be on other albums I have by Steve Vai, I will have to check).
Anyhoo, from what I remember of Passion and Warfare, I thought David would have Stu Hamm and Frazier in his band, before the idea of Coverdale/Page was released.
To be honest, I don't remember Frazier sounding like Paicey. I remember him being light on some tracks and heavy on other tracks (for instance, "The audience is listening" on Passion and Warfare).
I never thought about it again until just a few months ago when we found out Frazier is the new drummer.
Maybe he has grown as a drummer. I for one am not happy about Aldridge being replaced. He may be a heavy drummer and may overpower some of the older material, but atleast he puts on an energetic show. Burn was amazing with his drumming. Without him, there will be pieces missing from songs like Bad Boys. It's like Denny Carmassi trying to play Aldridge or Dunbar songs. He wasn't meant for it. We'll see how these songs sound with Frazier. Studio I think it will sound fine.
LIVE IS ANOTHER MATTER

Thats exactly what I meant, it was at that point were he brought the metal element, but would have been just as good in WS at anytime.
I just hope Frazier doesn't water the assault down.
