Good To Be Bad

I've heard the whole album twice now, and all I can say...it's a mixture of old and new Whitesnake. It's somewhere inbetween, and it sounds quite good. I feared that it would be another 1987 or Slip Of The Tongue, but it's not (thank God).

The songs are quite riffy and hardhitting, and the band sounds very good and tight. Coverdales voice is as good as it ever was IMO.

IMO this WS album is by far the best since Slide It In, and I honestly didn't expect DC to come up with a album this good anymore.

If you're into lyrics, then maybe this isn't the album for you. We all know about DC's interests.

A very nice return indeed!

Footnote: It's not for sale yet. I got a free copy from....somwhere....and just to be perfectly clear: I will BUY the album as soon as it hit the stores emoticon

Yes, I'm positive because I see it as a return towrds the more bluesier stuff, but in a modern Whitesnake way.

I also like the new drummer (don't remember his name). He's not so "bomber" as AD. Guitarist DA is one of my favourites from the "new generation", and he does a great job.

KillerBananas,

Why wouldn't you like it sounds like Slip of the Tong? What are your feelings towards that album?

A lot of people on this forum don't like Slip of the Tongue or 1987 because it was a direct turn away from the blues that David was doing prior to those albums. In fact, David himself said that he had to sell out and dress like a "girly man" during that time period.

However, I like that music depending on the mood I'm in. There are days I like the blues material a lot. Then there are days I like the harder and louder heavy metal. There are songs on every album that I own that I like, and every album that I dislike. Some albums I don't listen to anymore, while there are others that I listen to everyday. I like a lot of the songs from Slip of the Tongue. SOTT, Cheap an' Nasty, Wings of the Storm, Sailing Ships, Judgement Day, Sweet Lady Luck, Slow Poke Music. All good in my opinion. I also very much like Restless Heart. I'm just a Vandenberg fan in general.

It's up to you to make your own decision about whether music is rubbish or not. While you can take other people's opinion's about Good to be Bad under consideration, everyone should have their own about it. I can't wait to hear it on April 22.

Have to say whilst I hated the change in image(to as DC says "girly man") I do like a lot of the tracks from both 87 and SOTT both are very solid and enjoyable albums. In actual fact although the classic Moody Marsden Whitesnake lineup were a fantastic live band(possibly the best DP family band along with Dio era Rainbow))I always felt that the albums were a bit dull and predictable all the albums had some great tracks but also a good few fillers as well IMHO

Just listened to Best Years which is available on WS.com as a widget.

Lots of things going on there.

First, the drums are a little more Paicey (it reminds of the drums in You fool no One actually), but also there is a little of Aldridge in it. Not bad.

Second, nice harmonizing of the vocals. Sounds very early snakish at the beginning and throughout, and then slightly Coverdale/page at points, and then at the end it's 1987 taken from "Looking for Love" with the vocal build up at the end of that song.

Guitar work: very good, not a lot of squawk in it during the main song, but the solo is defintely sounding like combination of Doug Aldrich meets John Sykes.

All in all, if the rest of the album is like this, nicely done. Why not combine all the elements of Coverdale's past into one album... Best years is a good way to start an album.

Re: Good To Be Bad

here's my take:

i think i expected too much so i was a little disappointed with the songs. they are good, really good. but somehow there were no moments when my hair got electrified. however, it's a good, solid album.

i downloaded it via a torrent (and yes i will buy the real thing, as i always do) so i'm not sure if it's the real mix and mastering but i found the recording too muddy. everything's all over the place and too compressed. but i guess we'll find out when the official release is out.

lastly, i know a lot of people like doug aldrich but i'm a reb beach guy. i even find him a little blackmoresque at times, including the times when he does the finger tapping stuff. anyway, i think i only heard one tune that had a reb beach solo on it. the rest are all aldrich. he does what he does very well, but i think it'd be nice to add a different spice at times.

I agree. Reb can play similar to Blackmore and Vandenberg at times.

Why Coverdale doesn't use him more often, I'll never know.
